Check it out: Team Spirit "Fuck The Beach"

This weekend marks the second annual Bushwick Walk About Festival that takes place at Brooklyn Fireproof in Bushwick Brooklyn. The Walk About Festival is put on by our friends over at ReThink Pop Music and this year's line up includes Beast Make Bomb, Slam Donahue, The Yes Way, Ravens and Chimes and one band that I have seriously been obsessing over Team Spirit

The good folks over at ReThink have put out a free compilation of music from all of this year's Walk About festival performers and one song that I can't get enough of is Team Spirit's song "Fuck The Beach", it's a very cool little punk surf jam that I just love. You can take a listen to "Fuck The Beach" by clicking right here.  Once you take a listen to "Fuck the Beach" it will become your summer 2012 jam trust me!

I went to the first Walk About Festival last year and I had so much fun not only was the music great but the vibe of the festival was really relaxed and the second year of the festival promises another year of great music and awesome chill vibes.

The second annual Walk About Festival happens on Friday July 13 and Saturday July 14th at Brooklyn Fireproof in Bushwick which is located at 119 Ingraham Street in Bushwick Brooklyn. To get your tickets and download your free copy of the Walk About Festival 2012 compilation click here you NEED to be at Brooklyn Fireproof this weekend!

Check it out: The Beach Boys "That's Why God Made The Radio"

Time and time again you have read in this very blog about my love and admiration for Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and how "Pet Sounds" is one of the greatest albums ever recorded. Anyhow this weekend I'm out on Long Island visiting my parents and last night my mom and I watched a really interesting documentary about the Beach Boys that aired on the local PBS station.

Besides making iconic, brilliant music the band had a pretty interesting existence that involved; an abusive controlling father, Charles Manson, an intense imagined rivalry with the Beatles, paling around with Watergate figure G. Gordon Liddy  (that was lead singer Mike Love who is one of rock's great assholes), mental illness, Christie McVie of Fleetwood Mac fame and meditating in India with the Beatles and the Maharishi. A good biography to read about the Beach Boys is  "Heroes and Villains the True Story of the Beach Boys" by Steven Gains.

This year marks the Beach Boys' 50th year and that have been touring all summer to celebrate. They played both the Beacon Theater in NYC and The Jones Beach Theater on Long Island within the last month, I'm sorta bummed because I missed both shows I was away the weekend of the Beacon Theater show and the Jones Beach Show was during Northside. But I heard that actor and Mike Love buddy John Stamos played drums at both shows, so that makes me feel like I didn't miss anything. And in honor of this tour the band has released a new album called "That's Why God Made the Radio", the documentary premiered the video for the title track off this new album and both my mom and I were really impressed with "That's Why God Made the Radio". It sounded like Brian was back in creative control again, the track didn't sound like a slick sad attempt at nostalgia...ahem that was the band during the Mike Love years! Below is the clip for "That's Why God Made the Radio", enjoy!
