RIP Andy Griffith

Noted television actor Andy Griffith passed away today at the age of 86. Griffith was most known for playing Sheriff Andy Taylor on the legendary 1960's TV show "The Andy Griffith" show, his co stars on that show were Ron Howard who went on to star as Ritchie Cuttingham in the 70's TV show "Happy Days" and then became a well known film director and Don Knotts who went on to play Mr. Ferly on the TV show "Three's Company".

In the 80's Andy Griffith stared in the TV show "Matlock" where he played country lawyer Ben Matlock. For all you fans of "The Simpsons" "Matlock" is a running Grandpa Simpson joke.  And "Matlock" was a big part of my childhood, I can remember watching it with my great grandmother and my mother.

What many don't know is that Andy was an accomplished gospel singer who released gospel and country albums along with his comedy albums in the 1950's and 60's.  Below is Andy singing the hymn "How Great Thou Art" from an episode of "The Andy Griffith Show" and of course I couldn't leave out a clip of "The Andy Griffith Show" theme song.

RIP Andy Griffith you were an American icon!
