2012 has started off on a tragic note in the indie rock world, Esme Barrera a well known figure on the Austin TX music scene was found murdered in her Austin home on New Years Day. Barrera worked part time at Waterloo Records in Austin and was a volunteer for Girls Rock Austin which is a camp for young female musicians.
Austin police believe the person responsible for Esme's murder assaulted another woman on Esme's street 30 mins prior to her murder. Ladies of Austin till this asshole is caught please be careful and safe!! Anyone with any information about Esme's murder and the assault on the other woman that took place prior should call (512) 477-3588.
In the meantime our friends over at Permanent Wave have set up a benefit in Esme's honor at Big Snow Buffalo Lodge which is located at 89 Varet Street in Brooklyn on Thursday January 12th. Kelli Scarr, Golden Ghost, Jo Schornikow and Shannon Barnett all play and there will be a bake sale at this show. The show starts at 7pm and all proceeds from the show and the bake sale go to Esme's family to help pay funeral expenses. You can RSVP for this show here.
