The Holidays...

It's been a crazy couple of days! First off the Whatever holiday blog party was loads of fun big thanks to: Libel, EULA, Hilly Eye, Radical Dads, Jesse Elliott, Justin Craig, the amazing staff at the Cake Shop and all who came out. The next Whatever blog parties will start up again in February of 2012 but in the meantime we at the Whatever blog will be involved with a New Years Eve show in Brooklyn keep on the look out for that announcement.

Last night I went to see the filmmaker John Waters' Christmas show with my friend James and we had a great time! John Waters was sharp and hysterically funny and James and I sat across from Debbie Harry,  both James and I were in serious awe of Miss Harry she looks great!

One of my favorite stories that John Waters told during the show was about  Divine and how much she loved Christmas so much so that Divine opened a bank account and passed bad checks just so she could buy holiday decorations. Waters said that the cops showed up at Divine's house and gave her a lie detector test which she passed and he said after that I knew Divine was a great actress! There was a Q&A session after the show and I really wanted to ask John Waters if he had ever seen any of Kim Jong Il's films (you so know he has) but the Q&A was so quick that they didn't get around to my question.

I'm still reeling with glee and good creative energy over the fact that I got to see one of my film heroes perform live and sit near one of my musical heroes. It was a fantastic night!

Speaking of good creative energy the very lovely Lavinia Jones Wright has created The 78 Project. The 78 Project was inspired by the work of Alan Lomax, a folklorist who recorded various folk musicians around the world, most notably Woody Guthrie and Lead Belly on portable equipment during the 1930's and 40's.  The 78 Project records musicians such as The Mynabirds, Dawn Landes and others performing songs from the 1930's on equipment from that time and the sessions are tapped and posted the 78 Project website. Vandaveer just taped a holiday episode of The 78 Project, in this episode Mark and Rose perform a really serene and pretty version of "Silver Bells", J. Tom Hnatow from These United States accompanies on banjo. I've posted the clip below..ENJOY!
