In keeping with the Christmas theme...

As previously mentioned I'm a huge fan of the film maker John Waters. I've seen just about every movie that he's ever made and I know every line of dialogue from everyone of his films.

I was quite excited to get an early Christmas present from a very dear friend of a ticket to see John Waters' Christmas show at BB King's in Manhattan, I'm quite excited about this gift and I will take as many pictures as I can of the show to post on this very blog. And extra bounds would be if my friend and I get to meet the man himself.

Anyhow in keeping with yesterday's holiday theme, here is the very famous Christmas scene from John Waters' classic film and my favorite Waters' film "Female Trouble" ENJOY!

And on another note if you haven't done so already you can RSVP for tomorrow night's Whatever blog holiday party here. EULA, Libel, Hilly Eye and Radical Dads play, Jesse and Justin from These United States DJ, it's going to be such a great time that's not to be missed! And if Radical Dads don't give me that Christmas present they promised I may just throw a Dawn Davenport style fit and throw the Christmas tree on Gavin from Libel...you wouldn't wanna miss that!

Christmas Songs

On one of the news websites I read that are having a "March madness" type of competition on the worst Christmas Songs.

Two of the songs that they put up against each other, are John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "Happy Xmas (War is Over)" and Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas Time".  I've got to admit that I really like both "Happy Xmas (War is Over)" and "Do They Know It's Christmas time", yes both songs are a tad on the preachy side for holiday songs and John's Christmas song features Yoko rather prominently in the chorus of the song and I can see those aspects of the songs being unappealing to certian people, but from a musical stand point these are great songs!

Take a listen to the 3 part harmony on "Do They Know It's Christmas Time" between Simon LeBon, Sting and Bono..it's pretty amazing, as is the melody of the song and Paul Young's voice in the intro of the song. Put it this way "Do They Know It's Christmas Time" was far better then the American answer to that song which was "We Are The World".

John's song has beautiful yet complex lyrics and if you can tune Yoko out of the chorus and only listen to the kids singing the chorus then it makes the song all the more nicer.

To me one of the worst holiday songs is Sir Macca's song "Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time".  It sounds like Sir Macca put no effort into this song at all, it sounds like he wrote and recorded it in a span of about 5 minutes.

Another really awful holiday song in my opinion is "Grandma Got Runover by A Reindeer" by Patsy and Elmo. I was in 5th Grade when this song was first unleashed on the nation's collective ears at Christmas time and I was the only 5th Grader in my school that thought this song was seriously dumb and after twenty two years I still cringe when I hear it. It sounds as if my 5 year old nephew and my great aunt wrote the lyrics and music for this song.

But what do I know, apparently I just read that Elmo is a millionaire many times over because of this stupid song..maybe I should try and get my 5 year nephew and great aunt to write a holiday song.

What are your favorite holiday songs?
