The Muppets

Hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving.

The Muppets were a huge part of my childhood, my siblings and I watched "The Muppet Show" faithfully and saw every Muppet movie that came out as kids there were three Muppet Movies that I remember going to "The Muppet Movie", "The Great Muppet Caper" and "The Muppets Take Manhattan". And as a kid I was partial to Rolf the piano playing dog.

Imagine my delight when I read that Jason Segel was in the process of writing a new Muppet movie last year. Well the new Muppet movie came out this weekend and I went to see it last night and I loved it!  There are loads of celeb cameos in the film everyone from Dave Grohl to Fiest to Mickey Rooney to Jack Black to Whoopi Goldberg.  The new Muppet movie is geared towards people in my generation who grew up with the Muppets and their kids, if you are like me and the muppets were a huge part of your childhood and you don't have any kids don't feel silly about going to see this film it will take you back in a really good way and the writing isn't too kid like some of the jokes are adult.

The new Muppet movie is well worth the $10!

I've posted some of the Muppet's greatests hits including their versions of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Ode to Joy", "American Woman" , "Wild Thing" and that old original Muppet classic "Mannmana".

Robin Gibb and Deer Tick

I was really sad to learn that Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees is suffering from liver cancer and reading that news got me thinking, a lot of people don't give the brothers Gibb their musicial due.  Many people dismiss the Bee Gees are 70's disco monsters that had no musical substance. The brothers Gibb had tons of musical substance. Prior to the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack the Bee Gees wrote some really great pop songs that rivaled that of the Beatles and later era Beach Boys.

And take a listen once more to the band's "Saturday Night Fever" disco era music and you will find that it's really well written and well produced music and far better then the other "disco" music that was being made at the time.

So you can see what I'm talking about I've posted the clips for the Bee Gees pre SNF era song "New York Mining Disaster 1941" and something from their SNF era "Jive Talking".

Sending out speedy recovery wishes from the Whatever blog to Robin Gibb.

And just cause here is a little Deer Tick..the name of the song is "Baltimore Blues No. 1". And if you went to Deer Tick's show last night at Webster Hall please send us a full report!
