The one thing that disturbs me about this video was that it is produced by the clothing chain Urban Outfitters in an effort to go "multi media" and really market to the indie kids. Urban Outfiters CEO Richard Hayne has donated money to conservative Republican Pennsylvania senator, Rick Santorum who has been very outspoken against gay rights. Richard Hayne has also pulled pro LBGT t-shirts from Urban Outfitters stores.
And if you have seen the Black Lips play live you know Black Lips shows are often filled with tons of homoerotic moments between band members and lots of nudity. It makes me wonder if the band knew of Hayne's donations to Rick Santorum and his decisions to pull pro gay t's from stores??
My thoughts are, this video and song are totally kick ass it still wouldn't make me want to buy my clothes or pick up this album from any Urban Outfitters stores.
I leave you with this question should indie artists be made aware of the political actions of big corporations that are promoting their music and image?
