Beyonce and other things

I'm sorry I love Beyonce! She's beautiful, so very glam, can sing and dance her ass off and unlike Mariah (all though I do love Mariah's over the top tackiness including her Awkward Family Photo style pregnancy pictures) Beyonce seems like she's a real human being.

A new song of Beyonce's called "Run The World (Girls)" has leaked and most of the blogs have torn it apart. All this talk got me curious so I took a listen and noticed the drum sample comes from a Major Lazer track called “Pon de Floor", though the lyrics are simple I found them really empowering and over all I thought it was great track. It made me wanna dance around like a lunatic, but also I felt like I would play "Run The World (Girls)" if I ever I was having a pity party moment...I like to play uplifting songs when I feel down.. oh come on.. you do it too!

Below is the audio for "Run The World (Girls)" take a listen and let me know if you feel like I do and that "Run The World (Girls)" is going to be the anthem for the summer of 2011 or if you think the song sucks.

Moving on to more indie things....

Here is Dr. Dog doing an accoustic version of "The Beach"

and here is a little These United States

THOUSANDS at the Rock Shop in Brooklyn

Thousands is made up of Luke Bergman and Kristian Garrard and they pretty mellow accoustic music with lots of rich harmonies and they have an album out called "The Sound of Everything". Tonight Thousands played The Rock Shop right here in Brooklyn and it was good really good! I was there to bask in the glow of Thousand's goodness and I took pictures and here they are.

I liked the emblam on the guitar

Oh and happy easter, passover, earth day spring fling or whatever spring renewal holiday it is you celebrate!

MNDR & New Villager at the Brooklyn Museum and other things

Let me start off this blog post with the other things. Vandaveer one of the Whatever blog's favorite alt indie folk duos comes out with an album called "Dig Down Deep" tomorrow April 19th. You can take a listen to the first single "Concerning Past and Future Conquests"  here and you can order your copy of "Dig Down Deep"  here. And I highly suggest you start off your spring right by ordering your copy of  "Dig Down Deep" by Vandaveer cause it's so good and it will make you happy !

The other other thing is Whatever blog friend and Freshkills bass player Mishka Shubaly, has a story that you can now purchase on amazon.com called "Shipwrecked". "Shipwrecked" chronicles Mishka's time spent as a mate on a Caribbean fishing boat and the harrowing tale of Mishka trekking nearly 25 miles to find help for his shipmates when their ship runs aground in a deserted part of a small island in the Bahamas in the middle of the night. "Shipwrecked" is intense but also really poignant and very well written you can download it here for only two dollars and it's so worth it!

This past Friday, I attended The L Magazine's Audiophile concert series at the Brooklyn Museum New Villager and MNDR played. I have to say I really like New Villager, their sound was electronica based but it had elements of punk in it which I liked a lot and found to be really interesting. And I would definitely go out and see New Villager again live, besides making amazing music they also were really tight live. I can't say that I was as crazy about MNDR as I was New Villager, I felt like I was watching this hybrid of Lady Gaga circa 2007 and M.I.A without the politics.

The Diamond Center and other things

Last night I had the pleasure of interviewing Kyle and Brandi from The Diamond Center , before their show at Coco 66 here in Brooklyn and I got to sit in for some of their soundcheck which sounded amazing! Sadly due to a nagging cold that won't seem to go away, I didn't stay for the show and judging by how good the soundcheck was I know that the show was awesome! I'm still working on transcribing the interview and so I should have it up and posted  sometime within the next week... be on the look out.

In the meantime dig the video for The Diamond Center's "Caraway".
