Today....

Today marks the 9th anniversary of the attacks on New York and Washington DC.

Recently there has been a flood of anti Islamic feeling in this country stemming from a proposed Islamic center to be built blocks away from the Ground Zero site in New York. Many feel that it is a slap in the face to the memory of those who perished in the 9/11 attacks to have a Islamic center in the general vicinity of the Ground Zero area. And then there are many who feel that those behind the 9/11 attacks where pure evil and not real Muslims and the majority of those who are of the Muslim faith (including those behind this proposed Islamic center in NYC) are peace loving and non violent people who should be able to practice their faith where ever they wish.

Then there are those who believe all Muslims are terrorists and evil people.

It seems like the press has been focusing on the latter, those who believe all Muslims are terrorists. The media has really been giving too much attention to a Florida "preacher" who is not a real Christian and who may or may not be holding a Koran burning event this evening in memory of those who died in 9/11.

The way I choose to remember that awful day and those who perished in 9/11 is through love, peace and reflection of the way we all came together in the days after. I hope you chose to remember in the same way.

The Senors of Marseille

My latest obsession out of Brooklyn is a band called The Senors of Marseille. The Senors of Marseille have a really full rich sound with beautiful harmonies that hark back to Phil Spector's Wall of Sound, with a twist of 90's Brit pop (think Supergrass and Cornershop) and hint of old school R.E.M thrown in for good measure.

Check out the Senors of Marseille's videos for their song "Davey" and "The Coolest Girl in New York". And if you click on the title link it will take to The Senors of Marseille's website where you can download music...you so need to do that!

I'm very excited and pleased that my latest Brooklyn obsession The Senors of Marseille will be playing the September Whatever blog party along side of; Bottle Up and Go, Shark? and a special surprise headlining band who you've all heard of. The DJ's for the Sept Whatever blog party are Wyndham Boylan Garnett and Nick Kinsey from Elvis Perkins' backing band Dearland and The Diamond Doves. This excitement goes down on 9/29 at the Glasslands in Brooklyn.
