Lollapolloza 2010 in a nutshell

As many of you know last weekend Lollapolloza took place in Chicago. It was all over the news that, Lady Gaga crowed surfed during Semi Precious Weapons' Lolla set while wearing very little clothing and said fuck a lot during her Lolla set...YAWN! The media was also all over the story that the Strokes and Arcade Fire played Lollapolloza... double overrated YAWN!

Amongst all the overrated boringness of The Strokes, Arcade Fire and Lady Gaga there was a ray of indie music goodness at Lollapolloza in the form of Whatever blog friends These United States.

Check out These United States' video of their Lollapollza experience. It's called "Lollaponutshell".

Band to Check Out: White Magic

For all of you not keeping track last weekend was the last of the Celebrate Brooklyn shows in Prospect Park in of course Brooklyn and for all of you really not keeping track, Celebrate Brooklyn is the summer concert series that takes place in Prospect Park each summer. A friend and I caught the Friday night Celebrate Brooklyn show which was a screening of the classic (and very campy) 1960 Vincent Price film "The House of Usher", which is based on a classic Edgar Alan Poe story of the same name.

Prior to the film, Brooklyn based band White Magic played. That Friday night was the first time that I had ever heard White Magic and I was so glad I did, cause I was amazed by what I saw! White Magic makes really beautiful & unique music that I can only describe in three words and they would be psychedelic goth folk. Their sound is as if someone took the sounds of; Joni Mitchell, Yes, Kate Bush, Fiona Apple and Clannad and mixed them all in a blender and threw in a little Bronte Sisters, Edgar Alan Poe & Mary Shelley for good measure.

Lead singer Mira Billotte has the voice of an angel, who who along with her fellow members of White Magic will make you feel as if you are right in the House of Usher or on the English Moors with Heathcliff and Catherine or in that castle in Lake Geneva on that dark stormy night in 1816.

Below are clips of White Magic playing live. White Magic is not to be missed live!

The title link that will take you to White Magic's myspace page were you can get concert dates and hear more music.
