The Art of Shooting at Union Hall in Brooklyn

This very evening The Art of Shooting totally rocked Union Hall in Brooklyn. The Art of Shooting's regular guitarist Gavin was not able to play this gig so their friend played it in Gavin's place. Their friend rocked every bit as hard as Gavin! It was one stellar night!

Things I thought were cool when I was a kid

First off another successful Whatever blog party happened last night at the Glasslands! Big thanks, hugs and kisses to all involved and all who came out!! If you missed last night's blog party don't fret the next one is 6/16 at the Glasslands. Libel, Schocholautte, Infernal Devices, Wizardy and J.A.C.K. all play at the June Whatever blog party, Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson does a DJ set at this party. It's gonna be major and you need to be there.

Moving along to a non music related topic. As mentioned in previous blog posts, the only sport I really like is baseball. I've told you all how my dad is a huge baseball fan in particular a big Yankees fan, his love of the Yankees has rubbed off on me and my sisters. But growing up we always didn't share dad's love of the Yankees, I grew up on the South Shore of Long Island in the 80's and in the 80's LI especially the South Shore was hardcore Mets territory.

And in 1986 the Mets were super hot, they won every game and eventually won the world series that year. Everyone was so into the Mets in 1986 including me and my sisters much to the shagrin of our dad! I was sooo in love with Ron Darling! I was so in love with Ron Darling at that time that I actually dressed up as him for Halloween of that year! I will embarrass myself and post those pictures on this site!

Anyhow the other day I was watching "Johnny Dangerously" (brilliant 80's comedy film you must Netflix) and Joe Piscapo was in that film. For all you kids who don't know Joe Piscapo was, he a comedian who was big in the 80's and he was on SNL for a time. Watching Joe Piscapo somehow triggered me to remember the Mets 1986 rally song "Lets Go Mets", there was a video for the song that Joe Piscapo starred in it. I got the making of the "Let's Go Mets" video for my birthday in 1986. After remembering the "Let's Go Mets" video I had to look it up on you tube and as I was watching I was thinking to myself...this is lame! And then I read an article about how almost all the members of the '86 Mets were coked up.

The video is posted below, see for yourselves Joe Piscapo and the scary time that was 1986!!

RIP Ronnie James Dio

I was really sad to read today that heavy metal legend Ronnie James Dio passed away today at the age of 67 from stomach cancer. Ronnie James Dio came to prominence in the mid 1970's as the frontman for former Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore's band Rainbow. He then took Ozzy Osbourne's place as the frontman for Black Sabbath in the late 70's and in the early 80's he formed Dio, the band really made him a heavy metal god!

Dio's songs were epic, the lyrics often dealt with struggles between good and evil. The band's most well known song (and it's on my list of greatest metal songs) is a song called "Holy Driver" the video for that is posted below.

RIP Ronnie James Dio you were a true rock and roll original!!

On a side note, Dio claims that he was the one who first used the heavy metal devil horns hand gesture. Dio said that his Italian grandmother used the gesture to ward off the evil eye.
