Pretty Good Dance Moves...
Okay now I feel really bad about my Rachael Ray bashing post! I just read that my friends Motel Motel will be playing her party at the Bellhouse in Brooklyn on June 19th. Plus I got a really very nice invite to the June 19th event from Rachael Ray's people. So in an effort to support my friends Motel Motel and be diplomatic, I'm gonna have to suck it up and go and make nice with Rachael Ray.
And in thinking about it I'm glad Motel Motel will be exposed to a larger more mainstream group of people, Motel Motel is a great band and a sweet group of guys who truly deserve all the attention and success! On June 19th I will be eating one of Miss Ray's "sammies" along side of her and her husband at the Bellhouse all in an effort to make peace! Be on the look out for that picture..oy!
Moving along below is a clip of Pretty Good Dance Moves featuring Lissy Trullie performing a song called "Bad Habits", it's rad! And don't forget that Pretty Good Dance Moves plays the May blog party on May 19th which is next Wednesday. Small Mountain Path, Schocholautte, The Art of Shooting and The Spanish Prisoners play the May blog party with Pretty Good Dance Moves. The fun all happens at the Glassland Gallery which is located at 289 Kent Street btw S.1st & S.2nd Streets in Williamsburg Brooklyn. Everything starts at 8pm and it's $8 at the door.

Charlie Chaplin
Oh you lucky people you get two blog posts in one day! The other day I finally watched the bio pic "Chaplin" staring Robert Downey Jr. For all of you who haven't seen "Chaplin" it's the story of legendary comedian and actor Charlie Chaplin. And for all you who don't know who Charlie Chaplin is as mentioned he was a very famous actor and comedian whose career started in the 1910's and lasted well into the 60's. His most famous character is a character called "The Little Tramp", a man who sports a tiny moustache, over sized boots, a cane and a bowler hat.
After watching "Chaplin" (which you have to Netflix if you haven't seen it, RDJ is amazing in it!) I got interested in watching some of his films and finding more out about him. One of the first things I watched was a doc on Chaplin where his children and friends were interviewed. Charlie Chaplin was every the perfectionist and way ahead of his time creatively and the way he thought politically. He was one of the first performers in Hollywood to make over six figures and own his own studio, he also was very involved in his films. Chaplin was a notorious perfectionist to the point he where he was a control freak, he controlled every creative aspect of his films and did things such as multiple takes which was unheard of in the early days of Hollywood.
After watching that doc on him I watched some of his silent films. The way he moves in those silent films is just breath taking it's like watching the most beautiful dance. And the slapstick and humor is so sweet and brilliant. Below is a clip of Chaplin's from his film "The Gold Rush".
And I've also included a famous clip from one of Chaplin's films from the early 1940's "The Great Dictator" which is a parody of the Nazis and Hitler. Chaplin was one of the few people in Hollywood in the 40's who was speaking out against Hitler and his agenda. "The Great Dictator" is on my Netflix que and I'm excited to watch it! Anyhow this globe scene is one of the most famous from "The Great Dictator", watch how graceful Chaplin is.

Uggghhhh....
In this morning's paper I read that insipid twat Rachael Ray will be bringing her SXSW party to Brooklyn! When something or someone I don't like effects something that I'm involved in I don't hold back, I feel the need to vent to all of you! Here are my reasons why I can't stand Rachael Ray.
Reason number one why I don't like Rachael Ray is; my mother is a hard core foodie, by the time I was ten I tasted gormet exotic food such as escargot and visicoys and knew who all the top chefs were in New York. And in terms of TV chefs/domestic divas mom was all about Martha. And as I get older I know why mom was so into Martha. Martha is real cook and despite what the public may think, what you see is what you get with Martha and there is an air of intelligence and class to what Martha does.
Miss Ray's food is awful the woman can't cook for shit! She puts too much chicken stock in things and her recipe combos...yuck! She prides herself on being a healthy cook and she's not!
And don't get me started on Rachael Ray's personality, that 24/7 bubbly personality comes across as totally phony! The cutesy little nicknames for things like extra virgin olive oil and sandwiches, make me want to punch her in the face and I'm not a violent person!
Reason Number two of why I don't like Rachael Ray; her involvement in indie music! Miss Ray's husband John Cusimano who is an entertainment lawyer by trade is a member of the band The Cringe. And I will say musicianship wise the Cringe aren't a bad band, Mr. Cusimano has some good musicians backing him. The songs are another story they remind me of a Long Island bar band and his vocals are awful! If Mr. Cusimano weren't married to Miss Ray he would be playing bars on Long Island and New Jersey with his lawyer buddies on Saturday nights!
What kills me is that these two have started an indie rock management branding company and they are able to do shows at SXSW and now the Bellhouse in Brooklyn with some really amazing artists such as Dr. Dog and Freelance Whales.
Cusimano and Ray are helter skeltering a lot of really great bands for a lot of people by having them play their parties!
To me Miss Ray's sudden love of Brooklyn indie rock, reminds me of a couple of years ago when people like Avril Lavigne were wearing Sex Pistols t-shirts and telling everyone how punk they were. Now I guess it's trendy to say you are down with the whole Brooklyn Scene!
The one person in the world of celeb chefs who should be organizing music parties in Brooklyn and at SXSW is Anthony Bourdain. Anthony Bourdain is a rock star! He wrote an amazing book called "Kitchen Confidential" and has a show on the Travel Channel called "Anthony Bourdain No Reservations" that you all must watch! His parties would be hardcore!!
Those are just my thoughts!
