HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year! I hope that you all had a safe and fun New Years! We at the Whatever blog would like to thank all of you for reading and coming out to Whatever blog parties! And as mentioned the Whatever blog will be involved in more parties and podcasts in 2010. So keep it here!!

To kick off the new year right below is a music clip from one of my very favorite all time bad movies "Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls". "Beyond The Valley of the Dolls" was made in 1970 and written by film critic Roger Ebert and directed by b movie king Russ Myer. "Beyond The Valley of The Dolls" is the story of a young female rock band The Carrie Nations who are from the Mid West who move to L.A. to make it big. All the while the girls get caught up in the whole late 60's L.A. counter culture, sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle. This film has sex, drugs and rock and roll...who knew Roger Ebert was so down with the late 60's L.A. rock/counter culture scene and was sooo raunchy?!

Many TV stations air "Honeymooners" and "Twilight Zone" marathons on New Years Day along with Football "bowl" games..I'm proposing a new New Years Day tradition for the IFC channel or Fuse they should air "Beyond The Valley of The Dolls"! If your like me and you love over the top, campy rock "musicals" from the late 60's and 70's then I highly recommend Netflixing "Beyond The Valley of the Dolls". At some point this year we at the Whatever blog will do a campy rock "musical" film fest weekend were we'll show; "Beyond The Valley of The Dolls", "Phantom of the Paradise" and "Liztomania". Enjoy the clip!!

Some stuff

We at the Whatever blog hope that you all had a very joyous holiday!

As mentioned in our last blog post there will be more Whatever blog parties in the new year. The first of the 2010 Whatever blog parties will be on Feb 16th at the GlassLand Gallery in Brooklyn. Keep it here for all line up details for that party.

Also as mentioned we at the Whatever blog will be trying our hand at podcasting in 2010! We received an ultra cool podcast recorder system and we are trying to work out tech stuff to bring you interviews and live shows! Our first podcast will be on Jan 15th so again keep it here for all that and then some!

Moving along...my favorite guilty pleasure TV show as of late has been "Jersey Shore" on MTV. For all you kids who aren't up on the latest, "Jersey Shore" is a reality show on MTV that chronicles the lives of Italian- American 20 somethings who live for a summer in a share house at the Jersey Shore. Basically the people on this show are the worst New York area Italian- American stereotypes, a lot of Italian- American groups are up in arms over this show because they feel that the show promotes a negative view of Italian-Americans.

I grew up on the South Shore of Long Island and I grew up with people just like the people who are on "Jersey Shore". And when I go visit my family out on LI I run into people who are just like the people on "Jersey Shore" all the time!

To me this show is just like watching a five car pile up on the highway, you want to turn away but you just can't! I also feel a bit like Dian Fossey when I watch this show, I feel like I'm studying all the habits of "the guido" as the people on this show refer to themselves!

Anyway below are some really funny clips that parody "Jersey Shore", the first is from this past weekend's "Saturday Night Live", JS cast member Snookie visits "The Weekend Update" desk. The second is a parody of the Dove commercial starring Alyssa Milano from "Funny or Die" it's Alyssa's evolution! ENJOY!!
