Northside Festival in Brooklyn

For all of you native New Yorkers who are stuck in the city next weekend or for all of you who will be in NYC next weekend, you should come and check out the Northside Festival. The Northside Festival mixes music and art all over Brooklyn in particular Williamsburg. The fun starts Thursday June 11th and goes till Sunday June 14th. The bands and artists playing the Northside Festival include The Hold Steady, Bishop Allen, The Screaming Females (one of my faves), The Dodos, John Vanderslice and Sister Suvi among others. And for all of you who can't make it or won't be in NYC for the Northside Festival, yours truly and the whatever blog photographer Nick will be there covering every little detail of the Northside Festival for you!

Pole Superstar and Siren Fest '09

Summer concert festival season is upon us! And the Whatever blog is off to a fine start by covering Siren Fest '09 at Coney Island in Brooklyn on July 18th. The bands playing Siren this year include Grand Duchy, The Ravonettes (one of my faves) and Micachu and the Shapes among others. Moving along..my very dear friend Diane Passage is holding an event on October 1st of this year at the Highline Ballroom in NYC called Pole Superstar. Pole Superstar is NYC's ultimate pole dancing competition, women from across the nation will compete but only one can be named Pole Superstar! Brilliant just brilliant!

Thank God for Sasha Barron Cohen! Now only if he had pulled this stunt with the entire cast of "The Hills" and Lady Gaga it would have been absolute total brilliance! All though Lady Gaga more then likely would have tried to one up SBC by doing something nasty to SBC's ass and saying it was all in the name of her "art" and reminding us about how edgy she is!
