Dr. Mary gets played on NYC's 104.3 and a band to check out The Episodes

My dear friends in the band, Dr. Mary hit the airwaves of NYC's 104.3 tomorrow night 3/22 at 8pm when their fun and ultra catchy song "Panty Collection" gets played by Jonathan Clarke on his very cool radio show "Out of the Box".

"Out of the Box", is one of the last really cool radio shows on regular radio. Jonathan Clarke, is a big supporter of the indie music scene and often plays and interviews artists and bands whose music would never be played on mainstream radio. "Out of the Box" makes staying in on Sunday nights and regular radio all worth it!!

Moving along! This past Thursday I had the pleasure of seeing a punk band from Cleveland Ohio called the Episodes at Santos Party House in Manhattan. The Episodes are fronted by a soon to be ten year old named Tommy Gun. Now it's very bizarre to see a 10 year old kid in a band let alone front a band! I have to say that Tommy really rocked! He had those punk rock vocal chops down and he also had the punk front man moves all down as well. The band was really tight and they had a really cool old school punk sound..think the Ramones and the Sex Pistols. Anyhow I've linked The Episodes myspace page so you can check out their music and find out when they'll be playing in your town.

The Mood will put you in a good mood at Bowery Electric

One of the best indie bands in New York City and one of my interview subjects The Mood (they are really high on moi's list of the best indie bands in NYC), play Bowery Electric this up and coming Thursday 3/19. For all you kids who haven't checked out The Mood, The Mood's sound is a really cool mix of 60's pop think "Pet Sounds" era Beach Boys, "Revolver" era Beatles and the Dave Clark Five mixed with The Foo Fighters and Supergrass. The Mood take the Bowery Electric stage at 11pm, it's 21 and over to get in and it's ten dollars to get in which BELIEVE me is so worth it!! Bowery Electric is located at 327 Bowery at 2nd Street in Manhattan's East Village.

Check out the clip for The Mood's song "Music".

Check this out: Dan Auerbach and Sister Suvi

This past Saturday I downloaded Dan Auerbach (guitarist of the Black Keys) new solo album "Keep it Hid". And I can't stop listening to "Keep it Hid"! Every song on "Keep It Hid" has a simple down and dirty blues sound with a bit of a trippy twist. It almost to me sounds like what Cream would sound like had they formed in 2008 rather then 1966. My favorite track is "Street Walkin'" below is the clip. Check it out and check out Dan Auerbach's myspace to hear more songs from "Keep it Hid" and find out when he'll be playing in your town.

Last night I went and saw Takka Takka play the Cake Shop, one of the opening bands last night was an amazing band called Sister Suvi. Sister Suvi is the side project of Patrick Gregorie of the Canadian band Islands. Besides Patrick Gregorie who plays guitar, Sister Suvi also includes Merrill Garbus on ukulele and Nico Dann on drums. The sound of Sister Suvi is folk, punk, dancehall reggae and art rock. The lyrics are whymiscal with a macabe scense of humor. Sister Suvi is on tour with Takka Takka right now and Sister Suvi makes it worth while to come out early and see the opening band! To hear Sister Suvi's music and see when Sister Suvi will be in your town check out their myspace page

The Orion Experience dominates Japan and attention NYC area musicians

I've always said that the Orion Experience was on their way to world domination and the pictures posted below just prove my point! One of my interview subjects, Mr. Orion Simprini and his band The Orion Experience's ultra fun album "Cosmic Candy" have gone on sale at stores all over Japan, complete with huge displays! The two pictures below are from stores in Tokyo and Osaka.

In other New York music news, GNYC Music Company is still looking for a band or a solo artist to fill to slots at the Mean Fiddler this up and coming Friday 3/20. The times of the slots are 10:15 and 11:15pm and the criteria is you or your band must be able to draw 15 or more on a Friday night. The Mean Fiddler is located in mid town Manhattan and GNYC Music Company has a monthly standing Friday night concert series at the Mean Fiddler. The Mean Fiddler shows are often really great stepping stones to playing GNYC nights at larger venues. If you feel you or your band meet the criteria and are interested in taking one of these slots you can email Denise from GNYC Music Company at gnyctv@aol.com.
