Leave it to Jon Stewart and shows this weekend!

First off let me start off with music! It's almost the fall and yes GNYC Music Company/PBR nights at the Knitting Factory Tap Room go on for the entire year, not just the summer! This Saturday Sept 13th is the first GNYC Music Company/PBR night of September.

On the bill this saturday night are;

7:15: AT THE END OF THE WORLD
8:00: CINEMA CINEMA
8:45: GONNA GET GOT
9:30: ALAMANCE
10:15: ARIEL APARICIO & THE HIRED GUNS
11:00: MORS ONTOLOGICA
11:45: STEWART

So continue the fine summer tradition of drinking two dollar PBR's all night long, getting cool free PBR merchandise and listening to some great live music this saturday night! The fun starts at 7pm and the show is 21 and over. The cover is ten dollars and the Knitting Factory is located at 74 Leonard Street right off of Church Street in Manhattan.

Okay onto the politics. I just love Jon Stewart! Leave it to him to point out the hypocrisy of the Republicans and Republican pundits. Check out this clip and is it me or does anyone else think Karl Rove looks a bit like John Lennon's assassin Mark David Chapman!?

Two corrections...some reminders and a thank you!

Just two little corrections on my Fashion Rocks blog. During Sept fashion week in New York designers show their spring fashion lines. And Beyonce and Justin sang "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing" during the Motown tribute at Fashion Rocks. "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing" was originally sung by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. I was listening.... but at the same time I was trying to figure out what setting to use on my camera to capture B in her cute little 70's Cher like outfit and Mr. Sexyback! Plus I wrote that post with hangover brain from the Fashion Rocks after party the night before!!

Just a few reminders, if you haven't done so already check out my chat with the very awesome, smart and beautiful Miss Alexandra Scott on www.usedwigs.com. The chat that I did with Orion Simprini from the Orion Experience back in March will be the next posted on usedwigs as of next week.

And if you haven't gotten your tickets already for October 2nd's Stage for the Cure/MEANY Fest '08 kick off show at the Highline Ballroom in NYC you have to do so now!! It's gonna be a stellar evening with a fantastic line up!! Nightmare of You, The Postelles, Saints and Lovers, Cass Dillion, Solomon Saint of the Illegals, The Orion Experience and Murder Mystery are all playing on the 2nd. Not only does this show kick off MEANY Fest '08 but it's also a benefit for the fight to cure pediatric cancer. Great line up, great cause and it kicks off something really great! It's so worth coming out to the Highline for!! To get your tickets click on the link below.

And one thank you! Thank you to all of you for your kind birthday wishes!! And since it is my birthday, I leave you with a video clips of songs that I have been listening too non stop this week and one song from the best live unsigned band in NYC in my humble opinion.. The Ramblers. The first clip is a live clip from one of my all time favorite bands Dr. Dog. Dr. Dog is performing "The Ark" which is off their new album "Fate". You can hear the Beatles and Steely Dan "Aja" era influence in the song. The second clip is of MIA and her song "Paper Planes", the song and video are a really powerful look the modern immigrant experience. And look for cameos from Mike D. and MCA from the Beastie Boys. And yes I know "Paper Planes" is over a year old! The third clip is from the best unsigned band in all of NYC called The Ramblers. The song is called "Ride the Storm". Enjoy!

Coney Island...the VMA's

Yesterday was the final day of Astroland Amusement Park at Coney Island. The land that Astroland sits on was brought by a company called Thor Equities. I've heard many rumors about what is going to be done with the land, one of the rumors that I heard was that Thor was going to turn the land into luxury housing and restaurants, a strip mall and some form of an amusement park. Then the other rumor I heard was that they were going to recreate Luna Park, (the amusement park that Astroland was back in the early 1900's) with a modern twist. I know for a fact that the Cyclone roller coaster, the parachute ride and the Wonder Wheel are all land marked by the city and so Thor can't tear those rides down because of that. If it's done right, I like the idea of recreating Luna Park, I think that is the best idea for that land. You would create lots of jobs for people who live in the area, it create tons of tourist revenue and it would be an interesting look into New York City history with a little bit of the modern and there would still be that New York flavor and character.

The last thing that this city needs is luxury housing, restaurants and strip malls for the rich! Manhattan is pretty much sterile and bland already with housing for the rich, luxury everything and strip malls!

I'm really sad to see Astroland go! It's a part of New York history! I've always had lots of fun every time that I have gone there.

Moving right along.... listening to Dr. Dog's brilliant new album "Fate" kept me busy for most of the night last night. I watched only about ten minutes of the MTV VMA's, I couldn't take the Disney/promise ring/"Hillsness" of the night and what MTV has become. And honestly Russell Brand is a little too edgy for the MTV 15 year old/"Hills" set! What I did see was Britney accepting her award for best female video, she looked really great last night! And I also saw Pink's performance. I love Pink! I think she is so freakin' cool!! Below is a clip of her performance from last night, she sang a song called "So What". Does anyone else hear "You Better Run" by Pat Bennetar in the melody of the song? Perhaps it's a cool little unintentional tribute to Pat by Pink!?
