Superbowl Weekend

I'm not a big sports person and this weekend is superbowl weekend. But I usually get into the World Series and the Superbowl when the New York teams are playing in them. This year it's very thrilling because it's New York vs. New England. For a someone who was raised on the Giants and the Yankees and raised to loathe the Red Sox and Patriots. I will admit (and don't send me nasty comments all you NY fans).... that I think Tom Brady is hot. All though he went down a couple of notches on my hotness meter when he left his pregnant girlfriend for Giselle. Then I read he dated Tara Reid...eeewww! I have to say I find Eli Manning to be that much more hotter then Tom Brady, not because he's on the Giants..I've just always had a thing for seriously dorky/goofy guys, I find guys who are dorky don't know how truly sexy they are! I've always considered myself a dork (in a good way) and even though I find him to be hot I could never date a pretty boy like Brady. Guys like Tom look like they take longer then me to get ready every morning. And guys like Eli look like they shower, shave and get dressed and that's it! Also guys like Eli look like they wouldn't know the difference between a suit that came from Armani and one that came from Men's Warehouse. And as far as I know Eli didn't leave his beautiful pregnant actress girlfriend for a supermodel and he didn't date Tara Reid!!

Tom Petty is supposed to be doing the half time show which is very odd for him. But that's cool that he's doing the half time show, the NFL has come along way since the "Up with People" half time shows of years ago!

I will leave you with this thought...... GO GIANTS!!

Oh Dear God Please NOOOOOOOO!!

I have admitted in past blog entries that I have a list what I like to call my guilty pleasure music. This basically means that I have songs by the following "artists" on my ipod and I sing and dance around like a loon to these "artists" songs when no one is looking and I would also never cop to liking these "artists" at risk of loosing my indie cred; Fergie, Britney Spears ("Toxic" is a really good well crafted pop song!), Rihanna, that Pussy Cat Dolls song "Don't Cha" (I've always wanted to redo that song with a 60's girl group flare ala the Ronnetts), Kelly Clarkson (I kinda dug her last album reminded me a little bit of old school Pat Bennetar), the Black Eyed Peas and Justin Timberlake (his two solo records are great blue eyed soul records).

Any how while Kelly Clarkson is the only American Idol winner I like, I really loathe "American Idol" and the god awful music that TV show has inflicted upon the world! I will admit to watching that Sanjaya kid last season, there was something very punk about this less then talented kid bringing down the whole "AI" franchise had he won! But prior to that I watched only the first season. I find it funny that Paula Abdul is judging people's musical talents, Chris Rock had a great joke about that he said "Paula Abdul judging people's musical talents is like Christopher Reeve judging a dance contest". With half the winners and runners up being dropped from their record labels I really think it's time to pack in the "AI" franchise after this season. It's getting seriously tiresome and contrived.

Well besides American Idol one more "band" that will never make my guilty pleasure list is New Kids On the Block. For all you kids who don't know New Kids on the Block were the first boy band way back in the late 80's early 90's. They gave us such wonderful hits as "The Right Stuff" and "Hanging Tuff" and some really bad Beatlesque crap called "Brand New Day". And there was the dream boat brothers Jonathan (who actually looked like this kid I knew.... Jeff Preston from the band Jel) and Jordan (who had a mullet with a rat tail), the cutie Joey, the bad boy Donnie (who also had a mullet) and don't know what he was supposed to be then there was Danny. I was around twelve when those assholes hit big, I was in the midst of getting into my punk/metal phase and I was the weirdo girl in seventh grade cause I wasn't into New Kids On the Block! That's a source of childhood trauma that I discuss with my therapist...besides having sucky music that's another reason why New Kids on the Block will never make my guilty pleasure list, every time why I would try to explain to those kids why the Cure was so much better then the New Kids I was still called a weirdo! And the list of god awful performers that the New Kids camp signed....anyone remember Tommy Page!?

Anyway imagine my horror when I read on one of the many music sites that I go on, that there is a rumor that the New Kids would be reuniting this year. All those bad jr high memories came rushing back to me as soon as I read that! Then I read that the New Kids don't plan on reuniting but there is a reality show in the works to find a new group of douche bags to be a new version of the New Kids. Uggghhh just what the world needs another shitty reality show on VH-1 were people try out to be in a shitty boy band! Didn't the boy band craze end!? When will the reality show craze end!? Donnie Wallberg and his brother Mark found their true calling in acting who'd thunk Marky Marky and Donnie "the mulleted bad boy" would be such great actors!? Donnie should stick with the acting and not try his hand at music again!

Onto music that doesn't suck! Kung Fu Grip a band outta Brooklyn will be playing the R Bar tomorrow evening thursday 1/31 at 9pm. Kung Fu Grip has a really cool grungy garage rock sound and they are so worth a check out. The R Bar is located at 218 Bowery b/w Spring and Broome Streets. Kung Fu Grip goes on at 9pm.

Heath Ledger, GNYC Shows, Andrew Vladeck shows....

Tuesday afternoon the actor Heath Ledger died of what is believed to an accidental overdose of sleeping pills. The whole story is very sad he was 28, a great actor and had a small daughter who will never get to know her father.

What pisses me off is the way that the media has decided to handle this story. My sister and her boyfriend live a few blocks from Heath's babymamma Michelle Williams in Brooklyn as does a co worker of mine. My sister's boyfriend told me last night that the media circus in front of Michelle Williams' place is totally crazy and this co worker was saying the same thing this morning. The media should really lay off this poor woman and let her and her child grieve in private.

As sad and shocking as this story is....... this story really isn't something that the media should devote all of it's time too. And to go slightly on a tangent in regards to this story now it was reveled that the housekeeper called Mary Kate Olsen when she found Heath lying unconscious and MK sent over her private security people rather then call 911. Apparently Mary Kate and Heath were supposedly dating....now I have to ask you male readers what is the sexual appeal of the Olsen Twins!? Ashley is cute I'll give her that, but Mary Kate reminds me of a cross between the beggar woman in "Sweeney Todd" and a troll. But I digress back to me making my original point..........

And then I know I shouldn't give people like Fred Phelps and John Gibson any attention. John Gibson, who is a Fox News host (no surprise there) mocked Ledger's death and called him a "weirdo" with a drug problem.

Phelps, is the head of the Westboro Baptist Church out of Kansas and basically the whole church is the Phelps family. These crazy cunts go around to the funerals of fallen US soldiers and tell their families they are rotting in hell because they were fags. The smartest thing President Bush did was sign a bill banning these people from going anywhere near military funerals. These wing nuts were also the people that told Matthew Shepard's mother at his funeral that Matthew Shepard was rotting in hell because he was gay. Their "motto" is "God Hates Fags". Anyhow they sent out a press release yesterday saying that they plan on protesting Heath Ledger's funeral in Australia all because he promoted the gay lifestyle when he played Ennis in "Brokeback Mountain". I just hope Australia prevents these evil people from entering the country. And I'm also convinced that old' Freddy is a big old queen and should just come out of the closet, if he did that he'd be a lot happier!!

Onto the next items...One of my many interview subjects Mr. Andrew Vladeck (aka Dory Honey of the Honey Brothers) is playing a solo show this saturday night Jan 26th at the Abrons Art Center in NYC. The address is 466 Grand Street, Andrew goes on at 8:30pm and the tickets are ten dollars. He'll no doubt be playing some tracks off his new forth coming solo album "The Magnet". Andrew's sound is very folky and unique...... worth a check out for sure. Here is his website: http://www.andrewvladeck.com/

There are two GNYC friday 1/25 and saturday 1/26. The friday night show is at the Mean Fiddler with The Johnny Strange and Dr. Mary (with a new lead singer!) on the bill the fun begins at 7pm. The Mean Fiddler is located at 47th Street between B'day and 8th Avenue in good old mid town Manhattan. The saturday show is being held at Arlene's Grocery and among those on the bill are MEANY Fest 2007 finalists John McGrew and the Sitbacks, like the friday show the fun starts at 7pm and the tickets are ten dollars each. Arlene's is located at 95 Stanton Street on the LES.

Uggh a few days ago I went out and I was talked into having a sip of absinthe and oh my god I still don't feel right! And that's after only one sip! No wonder why people like Edgar Alan Poe and Hawthrone had issues after drinking that stuff!! I've been a catatonic dream like tired state for the last couple of days!

Picture of the moon

Over the last couple of nights there has been a beautiful full glorious moon.
I live over by a Con Ed plant and last night the smoke stacks were smoking away at full blast and the moon was right behind the smoke stacks and the smoke would cloud over the moon. It looked really cool! This picture is taken of the smoke and the moon through my kitchen window last night.

At the movies with Amy..............

This past weekend was a three day weekend because of MLK day. And since I'm too broke to go out and be social and my boss had given me some movie passes to AMC theaters I decided to check out a few flicks this weekend.

Saturday night I went and saw and walked out of "Cloverfield". For all you kids living under a rock "Cloverfield" is the big budget film that JJ Abrams of "Lost" and "Mission Impossible" fame wrote and directed. The story is about a group of friends who survive a man eating monster disaster in New York City. Normally I really hate disaster films..... they freak me the fuck out! But since the ticket was free and this movie has been hyped so much I figured what the hell. Well first off the characters seriously annoyed me, they all seem to be trust fund beautiful hipster types who either have no jobs or shitty jobs but live in really fab huge loft- like apartments on the LES, they all look to have stepped out of the pages of an American Apparel catalogue... the extras in this film included! And they were very self absorbed. They were the type of people that seem to be moving into my hood the LES like gang busters these days. Second off the film was filmed with a hand held camera and all the running with the hand held camera was giving me serious motion sickness. The last thing was that all the action, the explosions, dust and the fear in the air reminded me too much of what went down on 9/11. Part of me felt a little disturbed over that and the other part of me wanted the man eating monster to devour only the trust fund hipsters and spare everyone else in New York City! I couldn't take and so I walked out. It wasn't like I was out $11 because of it!

One last thing in regards to "Cloverfield", I have to question people's judgement on choosing movies to take small children too. Sitting in front of me was a family with what look to be a girl of about six and sitting behind me was a family with a boy who looked to be about four. Now if this film freaked me out I could only imagine what those children must have thought of this film!

Sunday I saw "Sweeney Todd" with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. Johnny Depp is one of my very favorite actors, I've had the biggest crush on him since I was ten and he was on "21 Jump Street"! Tim Burton directed this film, he is one of my favorite directors "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Corpse Bride" are two of my favorite all time films. "Sweeney Todd" is based on the Stephen Sondheim musical about a murderous London barber and his land lady who plot revenge on the judge who wrongly accused Sweeney Todd of a crime and sent him to prison and stole away Sweeney Todd's beloved wife and daughter. So yes there is singing in this....it is a musical kids! Len Cariou and Angela Lansberry originated the two lead roles of Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett on broadway in the 70's. I can remember watching a tape of an Angela Lansberry/Len Cariou performance in music class in the 7th grade while we were learning about Sondheim.

Besides Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in the lead roles, others who are known in the film include Alan Rickman as the evil judge and Sascha Barron Cohen in an uprourious part as deceitful Italian barber. The rest of the lead characters are played by unknowns.

Vocally the entire cast does a fantastic job with the music. Johnny Depp has a rock music background and it's never easy to sing Sondheim with a rock music background, but he really pulls it off as does Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman who really don't have musical backgrounds. Sascha Barron Cohen's song is more comedic and he sings it very well!

Visually the film is absolutely stunning. Tim Burton's vision of 19th Century goth London is so spot on to the story. And the costumes and make up are really ghoulish and amazing! I really wanna be Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett for Halloween this year!

Be warned "Sweeney Todd" is a very gory and grim musical. It's not a typical nice and sweet musical were everyone dances and sings their cares away. It's not for the squeamish! But so worth the eleven dollars!!

Then today I took my last movie pass and saw the latest Woody Allen film "Casandra's Dream". That film stars Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor (another crush of mine), with his last few films the Woodman has moved from his usual location of NYC to London. And "Casandra's Dream" isn't a typical Woody Allen comedy, it's a thriller/ drama. Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor are two brothers who find themselves in financial dire straights. They ask their wealthy uncle for a loan to help bail themselves out and their uncle asks them to do something for him in return which has the brothers questioning their morals and how far they would go for a family member.

I was meh on this movie. I found it to be very slow moving and serious which is totally different for Woody Allen. And serious is something that Woody Allen doesn't do very well, there was not one funny or witty typical Woody Allensque line in the entire film. What till this one comes on HBO. One of the previews shown during "Casandra's Dream" was the Scorsese/Rolling Stones concert film. The Stones did a performance at some event that the Clinton's hosted last year at the Beacon theater here in NYC. The film is called "Shine a Light" not only is it the concert footage from this event but it's also a career spanning doc on the Stones. It looks like it's gonna be really very good.

To "X", Vote and GNYC Shows

A few months ago I posted a blog entry all about rock and roll urban legends, and one of the legends I wrote about was the UL in regards to Jim Morrison of the Doors still being alive and living in the Pacific Northwest. I mentioned that not long after Morrison's death there was an album released called "Phantom's Divine Comedy" in 1974. The singer was credited as the Phantom, the keyboard player was credited as "Y", the drummer "X" and the guitar player "Z". And the vocals and music sounded so much like the Doors that the rumor was that it was the Doors, and Morrison was alive and well and still making music under an alias. The other rumor in regards to this album was the singer was really Iggy Pop, Iggy has never really confirmed or denied this rumor which adds more to the mystery of "Phantom's Divine Comedy".

I just want to let "X" know if you are reading this post you have an open invite to tell your story on this blog. If you are interested you can contact me via my gmail address which is Grimmone30@gmail.com .

"Oswald's Ghost" and FIP website

Yesterday I posted some pictures of the very cool Future in Plastics from this past friday night's GNYC show at the Bowery Poetry Club. I realized I had forgot to post their myspace.. it's now posted below. Check them out to hear their music and get FIP news and dates. Sorry if links look cut and pasted I have been trying to figure out how to use the link tool on blogger properly and it never seems to work for me.

Anyway one non music post for today . Last night I watched the most fascinating documentary that aired on PBS it was called "Oswald's Ghost". First off for all you kids who don't know your history (and there are those that don't) Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated President John F. Kennedy in Nov of 1963 in Dallas Texas. There are many people who believe that Oswald didn't act alone, some believe that Oswald was nothing more then a patsy (fall guy) of the mafia, CIA, Fidel Castro, The South Vietnamese, Nikita Khrushchev (who was the leader of the USSR at the time) and the KGB, the Texas conservatives.... the list goes on and on. And Lyndon Johnson who was the president who proceeded Kennedy and was Kennedy's VP formed the Warren Commission. The Warren Commission basically was made up chief justice Earl Warren and various senators and representatives including Gerald Ford (future president) who was a Representative from Michigan at the time. Basically the Warren Commission concluded that Oswald acted alone and that there was one bullet that killed the president and entered into the wrist of the Texas governer John Connolly who was riding in the car with the president when he was killed, that theory was called the "magic bullet theory", and I didn't know this but Arlen Spector who is now a very senior senator from PA was one of the main authors of the "magic bullet" theory, Spector was a DA in Philadelphia during the time of the Warren Commission.

One of the most famous proponents of the Warren Commission was a New Orleans DA by the name of Jim Garrison, who brought up a man by the name of Clay Shaw on charges that he was involved in the assassination. Garrison relied on the testimony of Perry Russo an insurance salesman from Baton Rouge who claimed he was at an assassination party with Oswald and Shaw. Much of Perry Russo's testimony came under the influence of hypnosis and truth serum. Shaw was found innocent by a jury and Garrison became carried away with his JFK investigation and lost his bid as New Orleans DA. Garrison's investigation was the basis of the 1991 Oliver Stone film "JFK", he was portrayed by Kevin Costner in "JFK". Interesting side note the person who proceeded Garrison as New Orleans DA was Harry Connick Jr.'s father Harry Connick Sr.

Anyhow "Oswald's Ghost" examines all the Warren Commission evidence and all the conspiracy theories gathered in regards to the assassination thought the years. And among those interviewed for the documentary are Norman Mailer (he must have been interviewed shortly before he passed, and one of his last books was a bio on Oswald), Former senator and presidential candidate Gary Hart who served a senate committee that reopened the JFK assassination in the 1970's and Former senator Tom Hayden and Dan Rather who was a young reporter in Dallas at the time of the assassination. It was a fascinating look about how the JFK assassination shaped all other conspiracy theories in regards to other catastrophic US events i.e.the killings of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy. And the killing of JFK was the first time people started to question the US government about what we were being told. The other thing that was really interesting about this documentary was that both sides of the story were examined and the film presented evidence that Oswald could have acted alone and it also presented pretty compelling evidence that the killing of JFK was a conspiracy. It was very well done and if it comes on PBS I would highly recommend watching it.

Oswald's Ghost sounds like a great name for a hard core or punk band!

Reality shows that seem like a bad idea and I'm a freak magnet

One non music post for today:

It feels really great to stick to my resolutions!! I have spent the last three nights at the gym, doing an hour of cardio and a half an hour of weights. I feel energized and I can feel the difference in my body.

Anyway at the gym the other night I saw a preview for a show that premiered on VH-1 last night called "Celebrity Rehab". As I've mentioned I've gotten rid of my cable for good reason, so I didn't watch this train wreck of a show last night. The premis of the show is that nine d list celebrities have their rehab experience taped while rehabbing at Dr. Drew's (of "Loveline" fame) rehab facility. Among the "celebrities" who are rehabbing are Jeff Conaway of "Taxi" and "Grease" fame, Chynna the female wrestler, Brigette Neilson the former Mrs. Sly Stalone, some porn chickie, some chickie from "American Idol", Daniel Baldwin, some chickie from "Family Matters" and the lead singer from Crazytown.

Seeing Jeff Conaway really made me not want to touch another drop of booze again! That guy has some hardcore issues with drugs and booze!! The show showed clips of him doing lines of coke just so he could go to the bathroom, because he is on so many pain killers that clog him up....EWWWW!! "Celebrity Rehab" also showed the lead singer of Crazytown smoking crack!

The whole show was seriously disturbing! After watching that preview I felt like I needed to take a really hot shower, wash my skin with acid and scrub it with a brillo! I'm sure Dr. Drew is sincere in his efforts in trying to get these people help and but to me there is something that is so wrong about taping people's rehab and therapy experiences. And I honestly don't hope these people who are participating in this show think that this show is gonna jump start their careers!
I'm ashamed to admit it but I actually sat riveted on the exercise bike watching this preview, it's the train wreck effect in full motion! And it's fifteen minutes of my work out time and some of my IQ points that I would like back!

One more gym related story for the day. Last night I was walking home from the gym mind you I still had my gym clothes on which consisted of my smelly yoga pants, an extra large CBGB's t-shirt that doubles not only as a gym shirt but as a sleep shirt, my hair was sticking straight up from sweat and my face was beat red and sweaty. I turn onto my block and I have "Black Boys on mopeds" by Sinead O' Conner playing in my ears and I'm zoning out enjoying my post work out bliss and I'm a few feet from my door and I hear this loud bang through the music. A few feet in front of me some crackhead is banging this bag he has in his hand against one of the building doors and is walking all over the sidewalk. I slow down to try and let him walk up a few more paces then me and then I decide to speed walk past him to my door. As I do that he stops and looks at me and says "Hey beautiful...you look really radiant tonight".....I completely ignore him and make it to my door as I search for my front door key he stops and starts to sing in the loudest voice possible about how he wants to give it to me! Again I completely ignored him and ran into my building as quickly as I could. Why is it I seem to be a magnet for all sorts of freaks!?

"Persepolis", Britney and sticking to New Year's resolutions

Well you all would be very proud of me, I started on at least two New Years resolutions! I began to wear PJ's to bed! And last night I joined Crunch gym!! I'm really looking forward to working out, this Crunch that I joined has lots of way cool classes such as pole dancing and karaoke movie and music spin classes. And they have things like video snowboarding and bike races, what that is is you hop on a bike and there is a video screen and you control your guy through peddling on the bike, the snowboard video game is the same thing but with a snowboard. I seriously look forward to kicking some ass in the snowboarding video game and the bike races!

The other big thing I did this weekend was I went to see the film "Persepolis". "Persepolis" is based on the autobiographical graphic novels of Iranian artist Marjane Satrapi. Satrapi, grew up in a upper middle class family in Tehran. And "Persepolis" or Satrapi's story details what it was like to witness the Iranian revolution, the Iran/Iraq war, and what it was like to try and be a normal teenager who loves Iron Maiden and eventually a modern woman living in a fundamentalist culture were women aren't seen as equals to men.

The story is told in a really interesting, eye opening, humorous, bitter sweet and sad way. The film is beautifully animated by Satrapi herself. And not to sound typical, watching films such as this and seeing the oppressive environment that Marjane Satrapi grew up in and what she dealt with on a day to day basis really make me very happy that I'm an American female as much as that can suck sometimes it could be worse! It's really a great coming of age story dealing with a culture that Americans aren't told that much about. The film is in French with subtitles. It is worth the eleven dollars don't wait for it to come on the IFC!

Onto the next item: It's all over the news that poor Britney Spears had a serious mental breakdown on thursday and held her kids hostage at her house. With the way the news media reported on this story you would have thought someone broke into the White House and held Bush hostage! I honestly feel really bad for poor Britney Spears, it seems like she is suffering from some type of mental illness and has surrounded herself with people who really don't seem to care. If I were Brit's handlers or parents or someone who really cares about her that she'll listen too, I would tell her to move from California to Louisiana or move to some small town in Northern California for a year or two away from all the madness of L.A. and do some soul searching and just get it together!

The E! Channel did a documentary about a year ago about the paparazzi and they followed a bunch paparazzi who followed Britney and what this girl goes through on a daily basis with the paparazzi is just insane! I realize that when you are famous the paparazzi is one aspect that you have to deal with but what this girl goes through is crazy, this doc showed a caravan of about fifteen paparazzi cars following her from her house to the store trying to get a picture. Maybe the paparazzi should just back off Brit and her kids, if this girl purposely courts attention maybe the paparazzi and the media should just ignore her and back off it's clear she's becoming unglued. And what really bugged me was why didn't the cops stop the paps and camera people from filming Brit being haled off in the ambulance!?

I hope she's able to get her shit together for her sake and most importantly that of her kids before it's too late!

Not to harp on the Britney story but I just read that Dr. Phil wanted to interview Britney for his show from her hospital room and he also wanted to interview her parents and he even went as far as going to the hospital. And I guess Brit's lawyers intervened or Brit just refused to see him. But just the fact that he went to the hospital and tried to interview her and then had a press conference outside the hospital about his efforts and how he thinks she's mentally ill, makes me loathe Dr. Phil even more then I do. He's such a snake oil sales man! And why would her parents be so public in contacting Dr. Phil for his help! Isn't that a breach of patent/doctor confidentiality rules??

Guess who is jumping on the "celeb" DJ bandwagon

I saw this in my email inbox and it gave me a good laugh!! I wonder if Joey will be showing up!? I'm kinda tempted to show and request songs like "Janey's Got A Gun", "Bang Bang" and "The Homecoming Queen has Got A Gun".

In other Amy Fisher news Howard Stern played the audio from her sex tape that she has out with her ex husband on his show the other day and it was truly vile. It would make anyone swear off sex with the horrid dirty south shore accents "look at dat puuusay", "wouldya come ovah heah and fuck me" and Stern described her ex as looking just like Joey Buttafucco.....EEEEWWWW gross!!!

More MEANY FEST pre finals party pics

I added two pictures from New Years Eve one is of my friend Dan playing in the Arlene's Famous Karaeoke band and the other is taken from the stage at Rock and Roll Karaeoke.

Pictures from the Pre MEANY Fest finals party....

Bright Shiny New Year....

Hello Everyone, this is the first post for 2008! Happy New Year to you all!!
Hope that you had fun what ever you did for New Years Eve. Me I had too much fun came home at 7am, met Matt Sorum the drummer from Velvet Revolver and Guns and Roses and Leslie Bibb who played Brooke on the only WB teen show that I was ever addicted too "Popular" in my New Years Eve travels. Both very nice, but no more 7am nights for me, if you've clicked on the blog through my myspace page and read my brief blog from yesterday you'll know why!

Anyhow Saturday night was the MEANY Fest finals, the winners of MEANY fest 2007 were a band from Glasgow Scotland with a very cool Beatlesque/Brit pop sound called Sonny Marvello, the runners up were an awesome glam/punk/metal band called Maslow from NYC.

The other finalists were Future in Plastics a punk/ new wave led by the very glam CoCo, John McGrew and the Sitbacks a fun and really good party band, both Future in Plastics and John McGrew and the Sitbacks are straight outta Brooklyn. And the last of the finalists on the bill were Ten Year Vamp a hard rockin' band outta Albany NY led by the very rockin' Deb.

Besides the finalists there were guests that played as well, the Johnny Strange provided very rock and roll moments, Kiss Kiss played an amazing set and the very unique, interesting and beautiful act Twins Indiggo covered Queen's "We Are the Champions" and 4 Non Blonde's "What's Up". MEANY Fest judge Lourds Lane played a few selections from her up and coming rock opera "Super Chix".

All in all the night was a really great one, there was a great comroderidy between all the finalists and I was up in the green room for most of the night interviewing everyone. The interviews from Saturday night and from the MEANY Fest special guest show from back in October should be posted soon!

Since I was up in the greenroom talking to people I didn't get a chance to use my big christmas gift my new digital camera to take pictures. But the night before was the pre finals party at the Knitting Factory and I took lots of pictures that night, I've posted those pictures in the next blog entry. My friend Dan's band Uncle Pumpkin played the night before bash and so I took a lot of pictures of Dan playing more so then I did any of the other bands on the bill. He's sooo hot!
