Chris Maddin's turn to respond:
Chris Maddin lead vocalist of the ethereal and edgy Austin TX based band Blowing Trees answers my questions:
AG: You guys have been in the studio recording your first debut full length album for Glassnote records, how did that go?
CM: It went very well. It rained almost everyday we recorded. the sun would shine on our ambitions and we would run with it.
AG: Can you describe the sound of this album? And does it differ from anything that you have done in the past?
CM: This record is a collection of songs written over the past 5 years(what a surprise we got). The songs we chose all had a similar thread that wove together to make a story about the calm before the great storm and what ifs and how comes, like dr. strangelove and it is strong and powerful and we will all see it. it is a story about love and it is a story about fear and getting past the fear to be something more than what the kings of the world have got planned out for you. if you knew about the end would you do anything different?
AG: What is your songwriting process and what is the inspiration behind that songwriting process?
CM: I started alot of the songs out with just words and would work around the words. i will usually bring a song and everyone will take it and make it their own. Running blind was written by the four of us after hearing jareds opening guitar lick. we wrote it very quickly. the choir on the breakdown was actually the first thing recorded on the album. its me and jerad layering our vocals in the middle of the night in a creepy stairwell in his loft.
AG: Where do you see Blowing Trees fitting in, in this current crazy state of the music industry?
CM: We would like to fit in where we are understood and listened too. I dont know anything more than hello, this is what i know, i hope you like it. everyone has a different taste in their mouth.
AG: Finally can we expect a full length tour from you guys after the album is released in the spring?
CM: there are plans right now for a tour next year. it could be anywhere. we will let you know as soon as we know. i am excited about recreating the album as a whole piece, our own little rock opera.
