Pink Floyd reunite for Syd...well almost!

Pink Floyd is one of my all time favorite bands, both Roger Waters and Syd Barrett are musical heroes of mine. Last night there was a tribute show to Syd Barrett (who died last summer) in London, Chrissie Hynde, Robyn Hitchcock, Damon Alburn, Martha Wainright and John Paul Jones all took part along with Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright. Apparently Roger Waters did a solo thing and then Gilmour, Mason and Wright went on later and did their thing. I would have given my left teet to have seen this show, what an amazing line up!! And it just goes to show you how wide reaching Syd's influence was and how brilliant he was!! I only hope that this show was taped and will be released on DVD sometime soon or on Fuse or something or they need to do a New York tribute to Syd, Roger is living in NYC know so he should totally do one!!

I was just thinking that what would be really cool would be if we got a tribute show to Syd together and did it at Arlene's and Rog some how found out about it and made an appearance. A few years ago I used to work at this restaurant on LI and my manager there who was a few years older then me and went to high school a few towns over from where I grew up, put on a production of "The Wall" with some friends and one of the friends got a letter in the mail with a detailed critique of the production that only someone who saw it could have written and it was signed by Roger Waters. So if old Rog was going to see a production of "The Wall" at Massapequa High School, I think he would come to the Syd Tribute at Arlene's!

Floyd play at Barrett tribute gig
By Ian Youngs Entertainment reporter, BBC News

Wright (left), Mason (second right) and Gilmour (right) played togetherPink Floyd's stars have performed at a concert in honour of their ex-bandmate Syd Barrett, who died last year - but stopped short of a full reunion.
Roger Waters and David Gilmour, who famously fell out more than 25 years ago, appeared separately at the tribute gig at London's Barbican Centre.
Gilmour was joined by original drummer Nick Mason and keyboard player Rick Wright, while Waters played solo.
Damon Albarn, Chrissie Hynde and Robyn Hitchcock also performed Barrett songs.
The guitarist was the band's first creative force and an influential songwriter, writing their early favourites.

Gilmour, Mason and Wright performed Arnold Layne, the group's first hit and one of Barrett's best-known works.
They then took part in a finale performance of Bike, from the band's debut album, featuring all the night's performers - except Waters.
Waters, a former schoolfriend of Barrett with whom he formed the band in 1965, played his own song Flickering Flame before the interval.
The musician, who is playing at Earls Court on Friday and Saturday, said he found smaller shows "more frightening" because he had a "sense of shame" - which Barrett did not suffer from.
Creative risks
"Before the illness, he kinda lived his life like he walked," the star told the crowd. "I think it's because of his lack of a sense of shame that he was able to take all the creative risks he did."
The "illness" was a mental deterioration blamed on heavy drug use, which led to Barrett leaving the band in 1968 and living most of the rest of his life as a recluse.
"Without Syd, I don't know what I'd be doing - I'd probably be a property developer or something," Waters added.

The show included snippets of films from Pink Floyd's early daysThe Pink Floyd band members had not been announced on the line-up and received an ecstatic welcome from the devoted crowd.
When Gilmour, Mason and Wright appeared at the show's climax, some fans shouted "where's Roger?" and "Pink Floyd" - but those hoping for the classic line-up were disappointed.
The quartet have only buried their differences and performed together once since 1981 - after being on the receiving end of Bob Geldof's famously forceful powers of persuasion for Live 8 in 2005.
But the night was intended to be about Barrett rather than Gilmour and Waters.
Nephew's thanks
Damon Albarn performed a song from the guitarist's solo album Opel - a list of spoken words that the Blur and Gorillaz frontman described as "early rap".
Albarn also persuaded Barrett's nephew Ian to speak on stage. Referring to his uncle's real name Roger, he said: "I'm sure Rog is up there somewhere.
"Just thanks - I've got so much to thank him for."
Martha Wainwright, Kate McGarrigle and her niece Lily Lanken gave one of the evening's most touching performances, playing See Emily Play, which reached number six in the UK 1967.
Syd's musical vision was a one-off that defined the mood and sound of psychedelic London
Joe BoydPink Floyd producerThursday's line-up also included Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones plus Kevin Ayers, whose band Soft Machine often performed with Pink Floyd in the 1960s.
Chrissie Hynde played two songs from Barrett's The Madcap Laughs album, while The Incredible String Band's Mike Heron, Captain Sensible and Oasis bassist Andy Bell also appeared.
The performers played in front of psychedelic visuals put together by the people who created Pink Floyd's legendary light shows on swinging London's underground scene.
The concert was curated by Pink Floyd collaborator Nick Laird-Clowes and Joe Boyd, who produced the band's early records.
'Important' songwriter
Listening to Barrett's solo albums was a reminder of "what a great songwriter he was and how important he was to British culture", Boyd said.
"Syd's musical vision was a one-off that defined the mood and sound of psychedelic London 1966-67," he told the BBC News website.
"His legacy is more abstract, since the biggest Floyd albums don't include his songs. But his influence is felt not only in everything the Floyd ever did, but also via very British artists as diverse as Bowie to Cocker and so many more."
Barrett died in July at the age of 60 from complications arising from diabetes.

The Cannon Logic and things that are funny

This friday 5/11, there is a very cool band out of Philly called the Cannon Logic playing Arlene's Grocery at 9pm. The Cannon Logic's sound is like that of the Beatles, Radiohead, Blur and the Beach Boys all rolled into one. They have been working on new tracks some of which are up on their myspace page, which is linked below and I'm being told they will debut these tracks at this friday's gig.

Arlene's is located at 95 Stanton Street b/w Orchard and Ludlow Streets. The fun begins at 9pm, don't miss it!!

I know I keep saying that I will not mention her in this blog again, but I saw this online on one of the other blogs that I read and I spit my tea out all over my computer screen, cause I was laughing. Some friend of Paris Hilton's has started a petition to try and get the Governator Ahu-nald to pardon Paris, the paragraph listed below is the opening paragraph, I shit you not!
Paris Whitney Hilton is an American celebrity and socialite. She is an
heiress to a share of the Hilton Hotel fortune, as well as to the real
estate
fortune of her father Richard Hilton. She provides hope for young
people all
over the U.S. and the world. She provides beauty and excitement
to (most of) our
otherwise mundane lives

Is the hope she provides to the young en's, all over the world.....if you don't have a known last name, you can become famous by having a sex tape, acting like an idiot cause you think it's cute, and doing absolutely nothing and when you do, do something (i.e. acting and singing) prove to the world that you can't really do that well!! And if you do have a known last name.....do all four of those things, cause you'll become doubly famous!! Yeah she is a great role model for the young en's all over the world, especially all those young girls!! She provides beauty??!! The girl to me looks like an ostrich dressed as a hooker!! She is a sad symbol of America!!

No more Paris, I promise!! I don't want to feed into this story any more so and prolong her time in the public eye. But I did think that paragraph was pretty funny!

The Sopranos

Last night I finally watched this past weeks episode of "the Sopranos". If I'm not mistaken it's the fifth episode and there are four more left in the final season. If you haven't seen this week's episode as of yet...stop reading right now.

Paulie works out a deal with Christopher to set his father in law Al up with all the stolen power tools that Paulie gets from the Cubans. When Paulie's nephew "Little Paulie" who has the same grey hair streak as his uncle, comes to get the tools Christopher gets pissed and says something to Paulie, Paulie reminds him who negotiated this deal and starts to question why Christopher doesn't drink and hang around the Bing anymore, this pisses Christopher off even further. Christopher goes to Tony to tell him that Paulie has been busting his chops and "Little Paulie" has been taking what is his. Tony tells Christopher he can't do anything about it and that makes Christopher pissed at Tony. Christopher and his wife have a backyard BBQ and Tony tells Christopher that he believes alcoholism isn't a disease and this makes Christopher even more pissed at Tony.

Christopher goes to an AA meeting and complains about Tony and the rest of the guys to his sponsor, he tells his sponsor that Tony is an enabler. "Little Paulie" and his friend shake down Christopher's father in law again, this time Christopher becomes so pissed that he storms into "Little Paulie's" apartment and throws him out the window. "Little Paulie" survives the fall but is seriously injured. After that a pissed off Paulie does donuts on Christopher's front lawn scaring his wife and baby. Christopher finally swallows his pride and goes to the Bing to apologize to Paulie, Paulie orders him a club soda and but Christopher says he'll have what Paulie is having, he then proceeds to get drunk and talk about how much he loves his daughter and Paulie keeps making jokes about how his daughter wants to be put up for adoption and how she'll be working at the Bing in a twenty years, everyone is laughing but Christopher, Tony tells Christopher that they are just joking with him. Christopher then goes to his screenwriter friend's apartment and when his screenwriter friend says that he is writing a script for "Law and Order" Christopher tells his friend that he has real life stories that his friend could use, when his friend reminds him that he is drunk and that he is going to call his wife Christopher gets mad and keeps repeating that he has stories to tell, when his friend keeps telling him that he is going to call his wife to take him home Christopher shoots his friend right between the eyes.

Meanwhile AJ is so distraught over his break up with Blanca that he mopes around the house and quits his job at the pizza place. He worries his sister Meadow when he speaks of suicide. Carm gets a recommendation from his doctor, AJ goes to see the shrink and tells him that he thinks Blanca broke up with him because she came from a poor background and AJ is from a wealthy background and that she was scared. The Doctor prescribes Lexipro for AJ. Carm tells Tony to try and talk to AJ, Tony tells AJ that Patsy Paraisi's son's frat is having a party at the Bing on friday and AJ has to go. Patsy Parasi's son is a campus bookie and AJ goes to the party at the Bing and winds up having a good time, so much so that he goes to another frat party with Patsy's son and his friends, when the group runs into a kid that owes Patsy's son money, the kid is threatened with this is Tony Soprano's son. The group runs into the kid again at another party and they take him to the woods to torture him, AJ finds that he likes doing what his father does.

I totally called it that, this break up would make AJ want to join "the family business"!! I think that the combo of the lexipro, the drinking and the violent life are make AJ either act out and do something that is going to get him in trouble i.e get into a car accident while drunk and kill a friend or kill himself some how.

I think in the end Christopher is going to go to the feds, because he was so willing to tell his friend his mafia stories and he was so pissed at Tony and Paulie, he also kept mentioning Sammy The Bull to his friend, so something tells me that Christopher is going to wind up in the Witness protection program in the end, cause he is going to turn on Tony. But then again it could be that Christopher whacks Paulie and Tony and in the end becomes head of the family.

Paulie is going to get it either from Christopher or Tony. I read that the actor who plays Paulie, Tony Siciro (who was once a hood himself in the 60's and 70's) has it so that his character Paulie is never a rat.

Okay you can go back to reading.

Well the Craig's list personals thing seems to be going well I've gotten a good response. The only thing that bugs me is people who respond to your add that think they are being funny. I put in my add that I was kind and intelligent and I was looking for a guy who was the same and last night I got a response from someone who wrote, "you look nothing like your pictures......and please stop saying your kind and intelligent", I wrote back WTF!? Do I know you?? I haven't heard back from this person, but I really hate people who think they are so clever and funny by cutting down another person all in an effort to make themselves look good!!

From here it's onto phone conversations with the guys I really hit it off with!!

Uggh I'm in allergy hay fever hell right now!!

I feel so dirrrrty

Damn you Time Warner Cable!! Again I couldn't watch my Sopranos last night!! I was flipping the channels and I came across VH-1's sunday night line up of reality shows, it starts with "Celebrity Fit Club"(I've seen this show in past seasons and I don't get the appeal of Dlisters trying to loose weight and that dude Harvey seriously scares me) and ends with "Flavor of Love Girls Charm School", I wound up watching "Charm School", cause I couldn't watch my Sopranos yet again for another week!

For all of you who haven't read about "Charm School" the premise of "Charm School" is, the comedian Mo'nique tries to make these women who appeared on "Flavor of Love" proper ladies. The women that went on both seasons of FOL seriously scare me, either these people are so desperate for their 15 minutes that they are willing to make fools out of themselves or this is them which is really scary, either way I fear for human kind!! But I watched the entire episode last night, I couldn't turn myself away from it!! Afterwards I felt so seriously dirty, it wasn't like guilty pleasure tv like "American Idol" or "America's Next Top Model" or "The Girls Next Door", it was bad train wreck TV, the kind that you just can't turn away from and feel really dirty and guilty after you watched an episode!! I honestly think that Flavor Flav, Hulk Hogan, New York, Pumpkin and Mo'nique are personally making sure my HBO doesn't work on sunday nights!!

VH-1's programming has been pretty bad as of late!! They used to be so good and have good music based programing, now it's shows like "Charm School", "Hogan Knows Best", "Flavor of Love", "I Love New York" and "Celebrity Fit Club" and top 24 countdowns of things celebs did or said. Their reality shows are like something out of a bad SNL skit, they are so exploitative!! If any VH-1 programming execs are reading this, stick with the music based programming i.e. "Behind the Music", "Legends" "Storytellers" "Classic Albums" etc enough with the reality shows!! I will admit that I do like the VH-1 docs, I did like the one they did about the drug years, I thought that was very well done!

I know I keep saying that I won't mention her name again in this blog, but Paris Hilton is going to be spending 45 days in jail, because she violated her parole and drove recklessly when her license was suspended!!! I had to laugh because on the E! channel last night they interviewed her lawyer and he was saying how this was a conspiracy and because she is who she is they are giving her this jail sentence. I read an interview with Paris in the paper and she was saying that the cops are always out to get her and they hit on her all the time, laughed at that one too! I just read a quote from her mother where she was saying this jail sentence is a waste of tax payer money and Paris doesn't deserve this and she and her husband where trying to get Ahu-nald to appeal the sentence. Anyone who violates parole gets sent to jail no matter who they are and what if she killed someone while driving drunk or recklessly, would she say it was nothing or that the cops where after her??!! . Does she think because of who she is, she is that above the law!!?? I honestly hope that she doesn't get any type of special treatment and only does two days or a few hours in a "country club" lock down, she should have to serve the full sentence, it reminds me of when Leona Helmsley went to jail. My favorite part of all this is when she tried to blame her PR person Eliot Mintz by saying he told her she could drive, Eliot Mintz used to be John and Yoko's PR person and he had a really cool show on the radio back in the day called "The Lost Lennon Tapes", the Hilton family must have backed the Brinks Truck up to Mintz's house for him to work with Paris, how do you go from working with John and Yoko to Paris Hilton??!! Hopefully this will make her finally realize that she is a elitist little twat who is emotionally 13 and make her change her ways and make her go away for good or maybe she'll get all gansta and hardcore. Either way I'm sure one of the networks will score a big interview with her once she gets out. The sad part about it is she is a symbol of America, we pretty much have the male Paris Hilton in the white house right now! It's also sad that her jail sentence makes bigger news then what is going on in Iraq right now......ah America!!

Okay since my love life is so pathetic I decided to do something I hate and that was place an ad on the Craig's List personals. I've never had luck with online dating, I go on a few dates and I get discouraged and cause I still believe I'm not going to meet Mr. Right on line (which I still do believe), this time I'm really going to give it a chance. But what amazes me is on Craig's list the responses you get from people who didn't read your ad, very seriously I got a response from a guy who was looking for a female to watch him and his wife have sex while she masturbated....how very "Sex In the City"!!! I was almost tempted to respond.....just kidding!!

Sopranos wrap up tomorrow.
