GAAAAHHHHAAAAA

Ugghhhh April has been the most stressful month not only for me but for a lot of people that I know!! So thankful today is the last day of April!! I'm trying to find a part time weekend job at either a bar, restaurant, club or a retail position at a store so if anyone knows of anything can they please let me know. Blogging and being a 9 to 5'er don't cover it all in New York!!

So this past weekend was the Coachella festival out in California. Bjork, Interpol (who I go through waves of liking and not liking they tend to be too smarmy hipster for me sometimes), The Decemberists, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Scarlett Johansen sang back-up for the JMC (from all I read she wasn't half bad), the Artic Monkeys, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Sonic Youth, Willie Nelson (who I freakin' love can't wait to hear the song he wrote with Mariah Carey!), Rodrigo y Gabriela, Lilly Allen, Amy Winehouse and a reunited Rage Against the Machine among many others all played. I LOVE Rage!! I would have given anything to have seen them play at Coachella!!

I read that Coachella brought out all the celebutards and teen actresses and actors i.e. Paris, Nicki, Kim Stewart and Lindsay Lohan, that dude Adam Brody from the "OC", Misha Barton, the blonde chick from "24", and that douche with the hair Ryan Cobrara and his girlfriend who is Lisa Marie Presley's teenage daughter. I know I said I wouldn't mention the celebutards and teen actors in this blog ever again after last weeks post but just their very presence there along with the DKNY swag house kinda really ruins something that used and still could be so freakin' cool!! I wonder if Lindsay threw a fit cause Scarlett was singing with the Jesus and Mary Chain!! I wonder if LiLo was bugging Rufus Wainwright or Carlos D. from Interpol to sign back up with them, so she can prove that she is just as hip and indie as Scarlett!! I also wonder what the boys from Rage would have made of all the celebutards, "Young Hollywood" and the DKNY swag house at Coachella!?

We never get shown the music fest love here in New York, I think it was Woodstock that ruined all that!!!! I can remember that a few years ago they tried to have a music fest like Coachella out on Long Island and the politicians and townspeople of where this festival was to take place freaked out and the fest was moved to Giants Stadium, all these festivals wind up being moved to Giants Stadium or Randall's Island or they are way upstate or they are in Vermont. It would cool for once to have a festival in the NYC area that is out in the open!!

One place that would be very cool to have an open outdoor festival would be on all these old abandon islands off of Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens but half these islands are privately owned or owned by the city and they have either paupers graves on them or they are just plan rundown. When ever I have downtime at work not only do I blog but I go on Wikipedia and just look something up, Wikipedia is cool cause it's kinda like IMDB.com where you can play the six degrees game when you are bored at work! Anyway just out of sheer curiosity I looked up North Brother Island, South Brother Island, Hart Island and Hoffman Island. South Brother Island was once the private island of the man who first owned the NY Yankees Jacob Ruppert in the early 1900's, since then no one has lived on the island and it's owned according to Wikipedia by a private Long Island company who paid ten dollars for it in 1975. North Brother Island was the home of a contagious disease hospital back in the early 1900's, Typhoid Mary was the most famous patient of the hospital and in 1904 the General Slocum burned right off of North Brother Island. After WW2 the Island housed returning vets and their families who were enrolled at local colleges and then in the 1950's the a drug treatment center opened on the Island and in the 1960's it closed and has been abandoned ever since. Hart Island is basically where the city buries all of the John and Jane Does and there is a missile silo on the island and Hart Island was used as a POW camp back in the US Civil War and according to Wikipedia there are still houses left from that era and the Department of Corrections does tours of the island every five years (if any of my friends are reading, WE SOOOOO HAVE TO GO!!). Hoffman Island is off of Brooklyn and was used back in the day as a contagious disease hospital for all immigrants who came in from Ellis Island, the hospital closed and it was used as an army base during the second world war, then it pretty much became abandoned after that. My favorite story is that people where arrested after they were caught trying to make a porno back on Hoffman Island back in the 60's!!! I wanna rent a boat and just go around to all these little islands and explore, I think that would be a lot of fun.

Musical Intervention and other things..........

Tonight I went to Crash Mansion to see some bands and artists, one of the bands on the bill was a artist named EJ. Now EJ has been around the New York scene for the last five years, she had a mention on Gawker and a few friends of mine (who are some mad talented musicians in their own right) played with her awhile back.

Now here is the part where I get a bit Paula Abdul on this girl's ass!! If she is reading I'm trying to be honest without being mean, think of this as constructive criticism.

This girl is trying to do alt grunge rock and she just shouldn't be. Her voice isn't conducive rock, think Britney trying to be Patti Smith with a bit of Pia Zadora in her rock phase back in the 80's thrown in and you'll get the idea of EJ's sound. Her lyrics lend themselves better to dance music then they do to grunge rock music, she could be HUGE if she was doing dance music I can totally hear her songs with a techno beat behind it playing at a dance club on the south shore of Long Island or Staten Island or a gay club in Chelsea. If she wants to do rock I would suggest to her that she has someone with more experience in that field to help her with her lyrics and maybe go with a more new wave 80's type of sound, ala' Blondie or solo Jane Weidlin (girl if you are reading this download "Fur" and "Rush Hour" for some inspiration and download some Lana Lovitch, Grace Jones and Rachel Sweet while your at it), grunge rock is something she should stay away from!! She could even go in a pop rock direction ala Avril Lavigne or in that whole AC jazzy pop Vanessa Carlton way

So girl I'm not trying to be mean, but your lyrics and voice don't lend very well to the type of music your currently performing. If you take my advice I think you can be the next big thing!! And a positive about last night, you have an amazing backing band!!

Onto the next item:

Rosie O'Donell announced yesterday that she is leaving "The View" in June. I really didn't get the full details of the story. But last night when I came home I saw the tail end of that story on the news and of course that asshole Donald Trump had have a press conference to give his reaction to the story. Man I hate that guy, I always hated him!! I find him to be such an obnoxious prick!! He is so freaking' creepy and such a jerk!! I remember reading an interview with him during the whole Monica Lewinsky scandal and he said something along the lines of "the world would be more forgiving of Clinton if he had an affair with a better looking woman" and then I remember he called into Howard Stern while his wife Melina was pregnant and was like she better not get fat. And he really made himself look like a total jackass during this whole feud with Rosie O' Donell and Barbara Walters, he sounded like he was about 10 years old!! I'm surprised his PR people didn't pull him back and say you know what maybe you should just keep your mouth shut. I cringe when I hear this man talk about the war in Iraq and other current events, cause I'm a news geek like that I watch Larry King and when Trump was on he was going on and on about how he and his wife had some soldiers who were disfigured and maimed in the war to their house in Florida and his wife kept saying how beautiful they were, I was thinking to myself, yeah those soldiers were more then likely male cause if they were female Trump would pay for them to get plastic surgery to make them look like supermodels!! I can't stand the man!!

While we're on it Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan and the rest of that ilk really need to go away!!
Lindsay I'll cut some slack cause I feel really bad for the girl it seems as if she doesn't have all that great of a support system, from all I've read it sounds like she has the stage mother from hell and a father who has been in and out of jail. But it seems like I know more about her private life then I do her body of work, I did like her in "Mean Girls"! Paris just needs to go away for good! She strikes me as being the hugest cunt, I don't think she is beautiful or sexy, nor is she all that talented, music, acting and her sex tape proved all that. I think what bothers me the most about her is that young teenage girls look up to her, this is a woman who was made famous by a sex tape and acts dumb cause she thinks it's cute (big pet peeve of mine!) do parents realize this!? I realize that there have always been socialites through the ages who have gotten famous, but they have always carried themselves with class, dignity and intelligence and have always done something. And then the other one is Kim Stewart daughter of Rod, she just skeeves me and I read that she maybe dating Caleb from Kings of Leon, your band has offically jumped the shark and sold out when your linked with either Paris Hilton or Kim Stewart or if either shows up at your show!! That is the last time Paris, Lindsay and Kim will ever be mentioned in this blog again!

Okay I'm done ranting and giving constructive criticism for the day!

Happy Administrative Professionals Day!

So every year on Administrative Professionals Day (aka Secretaries day, which is today) us Admins get $100 each from HR. I was so happy to get my money!! It made up for the shitty morning I had at work, I'm living the Devil Wears Prada with a certain co worker, who thinks the world revolves around her and I'm her PA! For all of you in charge be nice (always) to your administrative assistants!!!

Last night I finally got to watch this past Sunday's episode of "The Sopranos". For all who haven't seen the episode stop reading right now! ***SPOILERS****

It's hard to say if Paulie is going to be whacked. As I have said in my previous Sopranos posts the genius of David Chase is that he makes it one way and you think that it is going to go that way and it goes a completely different way! After watching this past week's episode and last week's episode it made me think that Tony is going to get whacked in the end by either Christopher or Paulie. Or that the feds are finally going to bring the entire Soprano family down, I think someone is finally going to squeal and tell the truth about that body that was found in the house in Newark. And how freaky was it that they decided to air the story line with the Asian mental patient and Uncle Junior a few days after the VT shootings!? The actor that played that part looked a little bit like the VT shooter. It was pretty pathetic to see Uncle Junior in that wheel chair at the end, I really think he is going to be the one to squeal on Tony about the body in the house in Newark.

Okay you can go back to reading the blog now.

Tomorrow there is a Streetwave show at Otto's Shrunken Head. The bands playing are:

Mr. Jello Drain
The Band of Gold
Conversation Killers
The Vanities
The One and Only Typicals

Otto's is located at 538 E.14th Street at Avenue B, the fun begins at 8:15pm tomorrow night and there is no cover. Come have a funky frozen drink in a tiki head glass and enjoy the really great garage punk!

The Second Coming

Didn't hit Eat Records yesterday wound up sticking around the LES. I had to run some errands and one of the things that I had to do was food shop for the week. Normally I go to the Associated on Ave C to do my food shopping, but of course everyone knew this was inevitable...... Whole Foods has opened up a branch on the Bowery and I had to check it out yesterday. I apparently wasn't the only person who wanted to check out Whole Foods on the Bowery! It was packed and you would have thought it was the second coming by the amount of people in that store yesterday! The store inside is really nice, they have a ice cream counter and a pomme frites counter.

As I was doing my food shopping I had to laugh cause every hipster and yuppie NY stereotype was at Whole Foods in the Bowery yesterday. As I was waiting to get my lemon sorbet there was a group of kids who where in their twenties waiting on line behind me and I think the girl in the group was the DJ from MisShapes Leigh. If it wasn't Leigh it was her twin cause this girl had the same black angled haircut, with the pale skin and red lips and the same black swing dress with flats. Anyway her friend had this real snobby speaking voice and he was saying how the last time he had rice sorbet was a year ago when he was in Japan. Then as I went to the check out line there was a couple standing next to me and they had a daughter who looked to be about a two years old, both mom and dad looked like they stepped out of the Polo catalogue! Not only did they look like they stepped out of the Polo catalogue, they also looked like the type that have to send their kid to a certain pre school cause she has to go to that school cause if she doesn't she won't get into Harvard! They were speaking french to the kid and she was answering back. The kid was really cute, I was just thinking in my head as I was watching this couple it would be great if this kid totally rebelled when she got older and either went all hip hop or punk on her parents asses!! And during my food shopping experience I noticed the Rachel Zoebot girls, usually these are the girls who come down to the East Village and Lower East Side from uptown for brunch on the weekends, but yesterday they were checking out Whole Foods! The Rachel Zoebot girls ware the skinny jeans with the vests and beads, they also wear the swing dresses with flats and leggings and beads and they wear the giant Jackie O. sunglasses.....I was wondering and thinking to myself as I was shopping do all these people live on the Lower East Side and OH MY GOD CBGB's used to be across the street from this place, I used to play on that stage and my friend Sean used to get me drunk there, I can remember Atlantis and his food cart, I can remember we had to walk down the Bowery in a big group after a certain hour cause it got real sketchy and people used to be able to buy blow (I never did, yuck to drugs!) where the Whole Foods is now, is the Bowery now the new Times Square, is Disney coming in next?? I'm food shopping at Whole Foods in the Bowery!? Does that make me old, a sell out or just really very punk rock!?

This week is a busy music week, two GNYC shows tomorrow and wednesday. Once I know schedules I will post them here.

And I just read that The Cutting Room maybe closing due to some issues the place is having with it's landlord!? Has anyone else heard or read anything about this???? If it's true it would seriously suck, cause that means places to play in Manhattan are becoming few and far between! I like the Cutting Room I like that room (hard to fill unless you have a following) I like the fact that when you go there you see someone different, I like the service (the biggest complaint I hear about that place is the service is nasty, I've never encountered that) and I like the food there but most of all I like the fact that Chris Noth is there all the time and you get to look at him!! One of these days before the place closes (if that rumor is true) I'm gonna work up my nerve and buy Chris Noth a drink!!

Faces and Places

YAY!! It's finally spring here in New York City!!!

Last night was a busy one from moi, I started the evening at Desmond's Tavern watching the very fun Dr. Mary play. For all who have never been to Desmond's it's a dive Irish bar on 30th and Park that has live music, you kinda need to sit in the back area cause if you sit up close you get very overwhelmed by the sound and it is very loud.

Despite the sound issues with Desmond's, Dr. Mary delivered a great set they were really tight and on and a lot of fun and they got great response from the audience who demanded an encore!!

From there I headed over to the R Bar to meet my friends Diane, Barbara and Renee. It was Barbara's birthday last night. The R Bar is on Bowery and Prince and it's a fairly big bar and they have a bar area and in the back they have a lounge area and they have poles for dancing. The poles are a lot of fun to get up on and do your thing. My friend Barbara is an instructor at the S Factor studios and my friends Diane and Renee take classes with her and it's just amazing to watch them get up and do their thing on the poles. They look so beautiful and make it look so effortless!! The music at the R Bar is really good, it is a mix of pop, rock and hip hop. From there Barbara, Renee and Diane were heading over to the Pink Elephant in Chelsea and I decided to stick around the LES.

When I hit 4th Street I decided to go and check out the KGB Bar. It's really cool, it's on E.4th b/w 2nd and 3rd and it's one flight up. And when you go in the walls and curtains are red and the walls are decorated with all sorts of Soviet Union era memorabilia. It's very small inside and kinda looks like an old school EV bar would have looked way back in about 1920, it's a very cool after hours place.

From there I walked into Bua on St. Mark's b/w 1st and A and said hi to my friend Billy who was behind the bar, didn' t stay very long cause it was too packed! I headed over to Criff dog and got my blt dog and cheesy fries and then went home and fell asleep. All in all a really fun night spent with good friends!

Oh and I'm checking out Eat Records today in Brooklyn, so expect to see a write up on that place tomorrow.

This is interesting.....

This past summer a group of young women who just so happen to be lesbians from New Jersey were in the city trying to have a fun night out when a guy they encountered started to hit on the women by saying nasty things to them (when will these creeps ever learn!) and once he found out they were gay, he began to say some pretty nasty and homophobic things to them. The women got so upset with this guy that they pretty much beat the shit out of him and now one of the women in the group is going to jail for assault. Violence is never the answer and if I had a nickel for every time some creep said something to me on the street all in an effort to pick me up, I'd be a very rich woman!! It grosses me out do they think they could ever get a woman by saying things like "nice tits" or "I wanna taste you" (one of the many lovely things I've had said to me on the street!), what I usually do is give them my best fuck you never in a million years look or flip em off. In a worse case you have to tell them to fuck off! I honestly think that this guy should be held accountable for his actions, I love the fact that he thinks he was being a nice guy after he said "I'll Fuck You Straight Sweetheart" to one of these women!!

Lesbian wolf pack guilty
Jersey girl gang gets lockup in beatdown
BY JOSE MARTINEZDAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Renata Hill

Terrain Dandridge
In an instant, four tough lesbians from New Jersey were transformed into crying convicts yesterday after being found guilty of pummeling a filmmaker in Greenwich Village last summer.
As their courtroom supporters wailed, the four sobbing friends were led away in handcuffs, with one of the defendants screaming, "No, no, I didn't do it!"
The mostly female jury convicted the women of felony assault and gang assault in the wild August beatdown of filmmaker Dwayne Buckle, who was stabbed in a Sixth Ave. brawl after allegedly delivering a crass come-on to one of the lesbians.
"I'm stabbed and I have a scar that will be with me for the rest of my life," Buckle told the Daily News. "They have their jail sentences, but they'll be out soon.
"This is what I get for being a nice guy."
Buckle, a Manhattan video engineer, was laid out after tangling with seven angry lesbians outside the IFC Center at 323 Sixth Ave. The women - three of whom already had pleaded guilty and are behind bars - belted Buckle after he allegedly called out, "I'll f--- you straight, sweetheart!"
Knife-wielder Patreese Johnson was convicted of first-degree assault and gang assault but was acquitted of attempted murder. Renata Hill, Venice Brown and Terrain Dandridge were found guilty of gang assault.
The assault charge could put the 4-foot-11, 100-pound Johnson behind bars for anywhere from five to 25 years.
Her attorney, Alan Lippel, said his 19-year-old client was "scared" about going to prison.
"It's a child going to jail," he said. "It's not exactly familiar territory."
"These were seven decent and nice young women who came into the city to have a good time," said Hill's attorney Susan Tipograph. "They were hit upon by an abusive, homophobic man."
But prosecutors said the lesbians beat Buckle, 29, without provocation.
The women had alleged he spat at them and called them "dykes" after they rejected his advances of "Let me get some of that" while pointing to Johnson's private parts.

The Bomb Squad and new venues.

My friend Dan is a total working musician, besides being in Uncle Pumpkin he is in another band called The Bomb Squad. The Bomb Squad's sound is a cool mix of rock and funk. The band is fronted by Brenna Gethers who was a wonderfully memorable top 24 finalist on "American Idol" Season Five the Taylor Hicks/Katherine McPhee season. The Bomb Squad plays the Knitting Factory tonight in the Tap room at 9pm, tickets are $12 and the Knitting Factory is located at 74 Leonard Street b/w Church and Houston Streets. So your weekend plans should be to see the Bomb Squad at the Knitting Factory tonight and Dr. Mary at Desmonds tomorrow night.

Last night since the weather was finally spring like I walked from my office all the way downtown to my house. I kinda was feeling like I needed to get my drink on, so I went over to the Campbell Apartment at Grand Central. For all of you who haven't been there or don't know what it is it is the apartment of the gentleman who ran Grand Central way back in the 1920's. Someone brought it (not sure who) and refurbished it to it's original splendor and opened it as a lounge. It's really beautiful, but it was so crowded last night! I stayed for all of about five minutes and went on my merry way downtown. I'd be curious to go back on a Saturday night to see what the crowd is like, cause the crowd last night was all corporate folks having a drink after work!

I wound up getting my drink on at Otto's Shrunken Head on 14th and B. I love the place!! Last night was the first time that I had been back there in like a year. The last time I was there was on a date about a year ago. That place is so freakin' cool, think tiki bar circa 1958!! The band that I saw last night was Kozmik Daydream, who did the "Save CB's" rally with us back in October, they put on a great show and it was really good to see those guys again. Much like Midway the room at Otto's were the bands play has a low ceiling and usually I find places that have low ceilings are hit or miss with their sound systems. Midway is a place with a low ceiling that has really good sound, same can be said for Otto's. The cool thing about the drink menu at Otto's is that they have all sorts of funky frozen drinks, last night I had a banana daiquiri and they serve you these drinks in a tiki head and you can buy the tiki head. It's a really fun place to go and have a funky drink and listen to a good band!

I just saw on NY1 that there was a candle light vigil in Washington Sq. Park last night in honor of all the victims of the VT shootings. I wish I had known I would have totally gone! I would love to do some type of benefit show were we raise money that goes in the victims names to a gun control or anti violence charity or if there are scholarships in the victims names raise money for that. If there are any promoters, bands or artists or anyone who runs a venue reading this who would be into doing a show that honors the victims of the VT tragedy and raises money either for a charity or scholarships, please let me know.

Dr. Mary at Desomond's Tavern this saturday

Well it is thursday and if you don't have any plans for saturday night yet I would suggest going to see Dr. Mary at Desmond's Tavern. Dr. Mary is awesome and fun pop punk, I'm being told that they are debuting a new song at Desomond's so you so don't want to miss that! Dr. Mary goes on at 9pm this saturday at Desmond's Tavern and the address of Desmond's is 433 Park Avenue South at 28th Street.

Don't miss Dr. Mary!!

Strange dreams and Sanjaya!

Last night I kinda laid low I got home from work at 7:45pm and was in bed by 10pm. I watched "America's Next Top Model" and "American Idol".

I was really bummed cause Jael got kicked off ANTM and my boy Sanjaya got kicked off AI!!

ANTM is a guilty pleasure show of mine, if I'm home on a Weds night I will watch and if I'm home while VH-1 is running a marathon I will watch! My friend got me hooked on that show ever since her yoga studio was featured in cycle 3! But Jael next to the two plus sized girls was my favorite, she was the token "edgy/punk" girl. She was the one whose friend od'd on the second episode and kinda sounded like she was constantly stoned when she spoke, I liked her because she was the misfit among the girls! Natasha the Russian girl is totally my favorite now, she reminds me in looks to Angelina and she I think is so cute!! Renee is growing on me, Britney is annoying me, I like Dionne and Jasline is way too skinny!!

Then I watched "American Idol" and my boy Sanjaya got kicked off last night!! I totally think that was a set up by the AI producers to get him off the show!! I'm pretty sure that he had the highest votes but they just wanted him off the show cause they were afraid that his mad talent, his hotness and his popularity were going to bring the show down. The show isn't worth watching now, I smell total set up by the AI producers!

After that I pretty much fell asleep and had two of the most vivid dreams that I still remember. Now I don't know if you guys are like me and when you dream vivid dreams that you remember, it's like turning the channels where you go from one dream to the next and they are totally random and have something to do with each other on one level but it makes no sense.

The first dream I had, I was at a fancy restaurant and 50 Cent came in and was hitting on me, he kept telling me that I had a nice full ass and there was a downstairs to the restaurant that had black walls and mirrors all over the walls, and I walked downstairs and there was Fiddy naked and he was hung too, it was all the way down to his knees! And I wound up having sex with 50 Cent and enjoying it! Wonder what that means!? The second dream I had I was at a Clash concert and Joe Strummer (who died 5 years ago) was still alive and fronting the band, he had on this leather coat and these John Lennon-Granny type glasses and was heavier then he was in life. I was there with these hipster types and we were in the very front row and these people where squatting and every time a song would speed up, they would jump up! I was trying to get the attention of Paul Simeon the bass player and he would be young and hot and then when I would look at him again he was old and over weight! Then John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten came on stage and sang that PIL song "Rise" and he was wearing a shirt that Paulie Walnuts from the Sopranos would wear and didn't have his usual energy and bitting wit, he kinda just stood there and sang! Wonder what that dream meant!? I watched a Sopranos re run before I nodded off and usually the Sopranos has some really good music they use, but there was no music by the Clash or PIL or the Sex Pistols in this episode. Hummm???

Just Music

Last night on my way to meet my friend I stopped over at East Village radio and I met a very cool group of people Jeff, Casey and Alex who do a really cool radio show called Just Music. Just Music, is a radio show that plays psychedelic, punk, trippy, garage rock from the 1960's up until today. What made me stop was that they were playing a very rare amazing Pink Floyd bootleg and if you know me you know that I like to fancy myself the Floyd expert and I like to think I own a lot of Floyd bootlegs! But this one threw me for a loop and it's called "Atom Heart Mother Goes On the Road", it was this really spooky mashup of "Green is the Colour" and "Careful with that Axe Eugene", complete with that blood curling Waters scream, Jeff told me that he found this record "Atom Heart Mother Goes on the Road" at a Salvation Army! I got to talking about Music with both Jeff and Casey and our tastes in music are very similar we love all different types of music but our favorites are psychedelic, punk, trippy ass garage rock!! A lot of their stuff was on vinyl and Jeff was saying that he often goes to record shows to find a lot of what is on their playlist and Casey runs a record store out in Greenpoint called Eat Records.

East Village radio on the whole is a great radio station to listen too, because it's something that isn't mainstream and corporate , they support the local scene and the community, you can hear lots of great music not just on Jeff and Casey's show and you don't have to be in the East Village to listen you can go on line and listen anywhere in the world!!

"Just Music" aires every Tuesday from 6pm to 8pm.

Interesting article about how do you distinguish crazy from creative

The whole Virginia Tech story is a really sad one. I watched "48 Hours" last night and they were doing profiles on the victims and were interviewing their family members and friends. It was just really awful I found myself crying and I had to turn the channel, I couldn't watch.

Every morning I read the papers online and I came across this interesting article in today's NY Daily News. The VT shooter was apparently an English major who wrote a story so disturbing in one of his creative writing courses, that the professor referred him to the school's counseling center. The article basically talks about how it's sometimes hard to tell the difference between someone who is just writing negative thoughts to vent to make themselves feel better and make the anger dissipate or someone who is just angry and off center and may very well act on those negative thoughts. As I've said in previous posts I suffer from panic attacks and anxiety and a lot of the time writing about my day, my negative/positive thoughts, fears, goals, plans for the evening or even gibberish that comes into my head helps me, very rarely do I act on negative thoughts, last week was a very rare case for me to act on a negative thought brought on by a panic attack (again as I've said it's about beating myself up cause I think I deserve it, fellings that I'm working on), if I'm too that point I can call a friend or speak to my therapist or write about that feeling. The big thing for me is writing it always makes me feel better, it makes the bad feelings go away! And it's a career goal of mine! The article points out how eirrie this past weeks episode of "The Sopranos" was in light of the VT shooting.

Creative vs. crazy
Grim material doesn't always tell the whole story
BY DAVID HINCKLEY
Wednesday, April 18th 2007, 4:00 AM

Dr. Barry Goldsmith, who teaches a comedy course at NYU, remembers a student handing in a sketch "that was all about ... depravity, and ended up with someone's head being used as a bowling ball."
That would have been fine, Goldsmith adds, "except it didn't come around to a funny ending. So it wasn't even black humor. It was just disturbing."
The periodic and disturbing question of whether dark writing foreshadows the next Unabomber or the next Stephen King arose again yesterday when it was revealed that Virginia Tech gunman Cho Seung-Hui had written papers so unhinged that one of his teachers referred him to counseling.
The problem there, says psychologist Dr. Joy Browne, who hosts a nationally syndicated radio program from WOR (710 AM), is that even in cases that in retrospect seem dire, it is almost impossible to predict behavior from writings or words.
"There's been research on that," says Browne. "And even the research is split. For some people, putting aggression down on paper, or talking about it, dissipates the anger. For other people, it seems to make it more intense.
"There's almost no way to tell which is which."
Browne does say context can provide some hints.
"If someone came to me with a manifesto on killing their therapist, I'd be concerned," she says. "I'd be more concerned if there were also other symptoms, like disconnected thoughts or lack of eye contact."
It's all part of "specific ideation," which Browne explains is a means of gauging, among other things, the likelihood a patient will follow through on something he or she has said.
"If someone just announces they'd like to kill themselves," she says, "they're less likely to follow through than if they say, ‘I'm going to kill myself Tuesday night using Drano.'"
But many mass killers have left writings that, in retrospect, seem chillingly ominous.
Two months before the Columbine shootings in 1999, co-killer Dylan Klebold wrote a short story for school about a man who killed nine high school students.
"I saw emanating from him power, complacence, closure and godliness," wrote Klebold. "I understood his actions."
His teacher wrote on the paper, "You are an excellent writer and storyteller, but I have some problems with this one."
The subject of where creative writing pokes its nose into real life came up Sunday on "The Sopranos" when Tony Soprano accused his nephew Christopher of creating a scene so close to real life it embarrassed him.
Robert Viscusi, an English professor at Brooklyn College, says "The Sopranos" happens to be a good measure of what's so disturbing about Virginia Tech.
"On the show, everything happens for a reason," he says. "They're logic engines. These killings make no sense. We have no idea why he killed so many."
Viscusi says he has had students turn in papers that were off-center. "But in general, writing is the place where you can be crazy," he says. "Hamlet is crazy. He's a murderer. But you'd never make that accusation against the guy who wrote Hamlet."
Looking back, he says, "The Columbine kids printed an invitation to what they were going to do, and we didn't read it.
"But I don't know how you separate that from something less serious."

Really heartbreaking....

I was just reading some of the bios of the victims of the Virgina Tech shooting...very sad and heartbreaking.....my thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends.

One thing that always bothers me when a tragedy like this happens is that the politicians and the activists are quick to lay blame on the music the killer listened too. I can remember after Columbine all the right wing politicians and activists came down on Marilyn Manson saying that the two kids who masterminded Columbine were motivated to kill because they were Manson fans and his music urges people to kill and so there for we must censor music cause!! That argument to me is a whole load of Bull Shit!! Music doesn't cause people to kill, most everyone who listens to Manson, Gangsta rap and other forms of aggressive music do not go out on spree killings or kill themselves cause Manson is telling them to do so in his music. People who do things like that are seriously mentally ill or high on drugs! When terrible tragedies like Columbine and the Virgina Tech tragedy happen the politicians and the activists are looking to lay blame and they don't want to lay blame on a faulty mental health system or on a flawed dysfunctional family they want to lay the blame on what type of music the killer listened too. I just read an interview on line with the shooter's roommate and the roommate said the kid spent a lot of time on line downloading music, I'm sure once a Manson or Wutang Clan song is found in the kid's ipod, William Bennet, Bill O'Reily and Sean Hannity will start screaming about how music drives kids to kill!!

Manson himself said it best in "Bowling for Columbine", Michael Moore asked him if he could say anything to Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold (the two kids behind the Columbine tragedy) what would he said and Manson said "I wouldn't say anything I would just listen..... no one else did", pretty powerful.

On an Oasis kick! Noel and Liam are the last two rock stars that we have these days!!

The Sopranos and Uncle P

So I finally caught this weeks episode of "The Sopranos" on demand last night. I liked this episode better then last weeks episode. I was just talking to some people at work and I was saying how I think this season judging by the first two episodes is going to be pretty predictable, but my co worker reminded me of David Chase's genius and he said just when you think you know what is going on, something else totally different happens and I just read in the paper that they filmed four different versions of the final episode so the cast doesn't even know what the outcome is! These are my thoughts as to what is going to happen this season, if you haven't already seen the first two episodes I would suggest turning away right now.................

***SOPRANOS SPOILERS, Amy's predictions as to what is going to happen this season

Christopher-I think one of three things is going to happen to Christopher this season

1) The Feds are going to get him and he is going to have to turn witness against Tony in his trial about the gun
2) Phil Leotardo is going to off him in revenge for killing his brother
3) He is going to kill Tony and become head of the family, the movie last night was a bit of foreshadowing

Tony

1) I think Christopher will kill him before the Feds get him
2) The Feds will take him down in the end

Carm

1) Will finally find out what happened to Adrianna

Paulie

It's hard to say, cause he was only in this past weeks episode for about five minutes, but I honestly think the NY family will get him.

Bobby

1) If it's not Christopher who turns witness against Tony I think it will be Bobby

I loved the line from last nights episode that Phil Leotardo said about how is family is named for Leonardo DiVinci and the name was changed when his grandfather got to Ellis Island.

I also think that Julianna Marglis' character from last season will be back to either take Tony or Christopher down.
Okay you can read again! I have to remind myself that if the weather is bad and I find myself indoors all day again I have to watch good quality shows like "The Sopranos" and not the "I Love New York Reunion" and "Charmed School" cause honestly I felt seriously dirty after I watched those shows!

A reminder my friend Dan's band Uncle Pumpkin is playing Arlene's Grocery tomorrow night at 9pm. Check em out!! Arlene's is located at 95 Stanton Street (btw Orchard and Ludlow).

Very sad.....

I just read about the shootings at Virgina Tech very sad...31 people have been killed as a result. But what is a strange coincidence I was just talking with a friend the other day about the Columbine Killings and my friend reminded me that the Columbine Killings happened on Hitler's Birthday April 20th. When I get bored at work I usually go wikipedia and today would have been Charlie Chaplin's 118th birthday, Hitler and Charlie Chaplin were both born in the same year four days apart. Both had had similar moustaches and Chaplin made fun of Hitler in the film "The Great Dictator" (Chaplin was one of the only people speaking out against the Nazis) in 1940 and according to his wikipedia bio Hitler hated Chaplin.

I hate Time Warner Cable

Ugggh last night I missed my Sopranos, because HBO was out on my system!! So I watched and couldn't turn away from the "I Love New York" reunion on VH-1 followed by "Charm School" (which is the show with all the Flavor of Love cast-offs), I honestly felt like my IQ went down a whole bunch of points, I wasted two and a half hours of my life that I can't get back and I needed to take a shower cause I felt really dirty and awful after watching both shows!

Hopefully today last night's Sopranos episode will be on in demand so I can review it!

But honestly why aren't Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton taking VH-1 to task for shows like "Flavor of Love", "Charm School" and "I Love New York"!?

One TV program that seems to save me from all of this car wreck TV is "American Experience" on PBS which airs every monday night at 9pm. Tonight's episode is a documentary about Jim Jones and the Jonestown massacre called "Jonestown the life and death of the People's temple". I happened to see this documentary when it was in the theaters a few months ago. It's really very well done and very scary and creepy at the same time. This documentary interviews people who survived the massacre and former members of the People's temple including one of Jim Jones' sons. For all of you who don't know the story Jim Jones was a preacher who pretty much preached about love and tolerance and he came up with this idea to start a "People's Temple" which started off as a good idea, everyone working together for the greater good and a lot of the members of the temple were African Americans and young people. But Jones' ego and megalomania got in the way and he became more and more paranoid and began things such as "white nights" were he would have members of the temple practice suicide drills and he also began to sexually harass and abuse both male and female members of the temple. He eventually moved the temple to an isolated area of Guyana were they worked formed a collective living town called Jonestown. At Jonestown, Jones would have suicide drills and again would harass people and would punish children who missed behaved by tying them to a rope and sending them down a well and telling them a monster would get them and it would be his goons poking at their feet as they went down the well. Concerned relatives contacted a CA congressman named Leo Ryan who went to Jonestown to see if he could get some Jonestown people to come back with him and a NBC camera crew went along with him. When Ryan, the camera crew and a few people from Jonestown who wanted to leave hit the airstrip they were ambushed by Jim Jones henchmen who killed the congressman and a defector and injured everyone else. The next day Jones poisoned his flock with kool aid a few people managed to survive. The documentary interviews those who survived and they play alot of Jones' sermons (which are very creepy) including the very last sermon he gave on that fateful day (which is the creepiest) where he encourages families to take the poisoned Kool-aid together cause "they" are after us and a woman tries to get him to take everyone to the Soviet embassy and to spare the children. It's so freakin' creepy!! It's really moving and very sad to hear the stories of the survivors, it's such a fascinating story and this documentary really tells the story very well, so worth a check out tonight at 9pm on PBS.

I hate Student Loan people

All day today and all day yesterday my phone has been ringing off the hook! I think it's my friends calling but it's not it's student loan people trying to get me to consolidate my loans! UGGGGHHH!!!! Do these people know not to call on a weekend??? Isn't it illegal??!! I yelled at one poor girl not to call on a saturday, I realize these people are trying to do a job but it its rather annoying!! I hate them more then the IRS and Time Warner Cable combined!!

Today has been such a lazy sunday. I'm trying to get motivated to clean my house but I just can't. I have been napping and watching TV all day today. One of my good guilty pleasure shows that I have been watching today is "Parental Control" on MTV. The show is a dating show were parents try and set their kids up with a person they that choose, cause they don't like the person their kid is currently dating. I have to say I totally think the show is faked but I was so addicted today!

Rainy Sunday

So it's raining here in New York City. Really haven't heard the winds that they said we were going to get, maybe LI and NJ are experiencing that.

The eye infection seems to have gone away. I don't look like a posed raccoon anymore!

This week is going to be a busy week for me. On tuesday there is the GNYC show at Midway, kinda bummed that I skipped out on the show early on thursday (I was really tired) cause I heard there was a really amazing band playing and forgive me I have forgotten their name, but I heard they were amazing! The last GNYC/Streetwave show at Midway there was another really amazing band called the Screaming Females that played. The Screaming Females are a group of three kids from NJ who go to NYU. There sound is def garage punk and they are lead by this little punk rock urchin named Marissa who could easily be Kim Gordon and Karen O's long lost little sister!

This wednesday is the Uncle Pumpkin show at Arlene's. Uncle Pumpkin is my friend Dan's band they are awesome, they have a sound all their own, kinda in the vein of Jellyfish, Phish and Steely Dan if I had to compare to anything. They go on at 9pm. If you are in the area they are so worth a check out! Here is the info:

UNCLE PUMPKIN @ ARLENE'S GROCERY 95 Stanton St (btwn Orchard & Ludlow) Wednesday, April 18th 9pm till 9:45pm Be there, or be there.

Here is Uncle P's myspace page

Another Saturday night and I ain't got nobody

Usually being a gal with a busy schedule I'm out and about most nights of the week. But tonight due to the fact that I have this rather gnarly eye infection (the drops are helping) and almost zero funds till monday, I have decided to stay indoors this evening.

One thing that I have noticed is that every time I decide to stay home on a saturday night either VH-1 or MTV airs a marathon of "America's Next Top Model", usually I watch about two episodes of the current season when it's on, but I find myself watching these marathons when VH-1 or MTV air them and I can't look away or turn the channel. I'm that dorky that I get so into it, I find myself hating the gal who is the token beeyoch and routing for the plus sized gal. It like "American Idol" is a total guilty pleasure show! One other show that I saw a ad for that I know will be my guilty pleasure train wreck of a show will be "Charmed School" with Mo'nique and the women who were cast offs from "Flavor of Love". Mo'nique helps these women become "ladies" and I don't know if you watched any of the seasons of "Flavor of Love" but these gals are hard core trashy chicks. I got into the first season of FOL and OMG after each time I watched it I felt so dirty! I couldn't take myself away from the TV when it was on!! I also got into watching the spin off "I Love New York" with New York from the first season of FOL and again I totally felt dirty after watching each episode! What's funny is that I'm one degree away from one of those FOL chicks, my BFF worked with "Like Dat" from FOL season 2!!

Back to the Imus thing I just read an article were they thing Imus' ranch were he houses terminally ill children for the summer is in danger because of his comments. I gave my two cents about this issue in one of my last posts and I will say it again I don't think he deserved to be fired from his radio show and his TV show. I think a smart PR move would have been to have suspended him for a week, make him go on Larry King, "The View" and Sharpton's radio show to explain himself and then apologize to the Rutgers team and keep the ranch closed till all of this blows over. The public forgets easily and in a few months time no one will remember anything, plus the public loves a good comeback story! Look at Kate Moss!

I just read that Don Ho died!! I didn't realize how old he was.......

Celebrity deaths always come in threes

Uggghhh Nor'easters and eye infections, Elvis and crazy concert stories!

So tomorrow they say that we will be getting a really nasty nor'easter storm here in New York City, WHEN WILL IT BE SPRING!!!!!!! The weather here in the city has been about fourty five degrees, I still haven't put away my winter jacket and by this time it's usually in storage. But watch the storm will just be rain and nothing else, usually the weather people make a big deal out of nothing, but who knows the sky looks rather gloomy and Bloomberg was holding a press conference on NY1 about a storm plan.

And to top off the crappy weather report I have an eye infection in both eyes!! I have to pick up some eye drops from the drug store. I feel and look really lovely right now, I look like a cross between a possessed raccoon and like I just lost in a fist fight. Both eyes and the skin around the eyes are red and swollen and itchy.

And now onto the fun!
This past monday night I went to see Elvis Perkins at the Bowery Ballroom. His set list was straight off his album " Ash Wednesday". He was amazing live, so melodic and so beautiful and very ethereal. He has a fantastic backing band called Dearland who were so tight. Elvis has a great stage presence and his whole demeanor kind of reminds me of a young Bob Dylan. I got backstage to talk to Elvis for all of about five minutes. In that five minutes I managed to give him my card with all my blog info on it. I hope that he will contact me and I can sit and interview him for this blog. For all of you who haven't read my myspace blog, I really have been talking up his album "Ash Wednesday", it's the best I have heard all year. He sounds like a cross between Jeff Buckley, The Shins and Nick Drake, but his sound is all his. So worth a download!!

We need your help

Sopranos wrap-up

Last night I finally got to seeing the first episode of the new season of the Sopranos. From what I read this season is the last season and judging by last nights episode I think I can predict what will happen in the very last episode. I don't really want to get into the details of last nights episode cause I know there maybe a lot of you who haven't seen it so I won't spoil it for you, but one thing I will say is that Edie Falco should never star in a musical!! Ada Tutoro's voice was actually pretty good, Ada can do a musical but Edie shouldn't!! My review of the first episode was meh and it was pretty predictable.

Oh and I didn't stay long at the GNYC/Streetwave show. Next show I will have a review.

ETA: Now this Imus/Rutguers story gets stranger by the minute I just read that the Gov. of NJ was critically injured in a car crash on his way to the meeting between Imus and the team. Humm..

Don Imus, Kurt Vonnegut and Joe Francis

I'm really upset about Kurt Vonnegut passing. As I mentioned he was my favorite author and I got to meet him and hear him speak when I was about fifteen. And how I got to hear him speak was that the old minister at my parents church was a good friend of Vonneguts. This guy married Vonnegut and his wife Jill Krementz about twenty five years ago and they remained pretty good friends since. My dad is still in touch with that minister so I should ask him if he emailed my dad about Vonnegut and his passing. That kinda makes me feel like I'm one degree from Kurt Vonnegut, which makes his passing even more upsetting. My friend Oscar and I were talking last night about Vonnegut and we're both really big fans and we both said the same thing how it pissed us off that Vonnegut only got a blurb in the newspaper and Anna Nicole Smith got the front page headlines for like three months after she died! One of the greatest movie cameos ever was Vonnegut in Rodney Dangerfeild's movie "Back to School", when he shows up to do the report for Rodney Dangerfeild on "Slaghter House Five"....hehe!!

Onto the next item of the day!
For all of you who have been living under a rock lately, Don Imus (for all you who really living under a rock and don't know who Imus is, he is a well known radio personality who looks like the crypt keeper and wears cowboy outfits, like Stern he has been a NY area radio main stay for like 30 years) has come under a lot of controversy lately for calling the women of the Rutgers Basketball team "nappy headed hos" on his radio show. Sponsers have pulled out of his radio show and tv show in a panic Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have been protesting outside Imus' studios, Imus went on Al Sharpton's radio show to apologize, but last night he was fired from his MSNBC show and his radio show. It kinda pisses me off cause I don't think that quote (which I think was more misgyonistic then it was racist) should have gotten him fired from both his TV show and radio show and to me I think he should have been given a suspention of a week, gone on "The View" to explain himself and gone on Al Sharpton's radio show to explain himself to Sharpton and apologized to the Rutgers team and that would have been it! It's such a double standard to me why aren't Jesse and Al and all the rest who were protesting Imus going after Fifty Cent and Snoop?? They exploit women all the time with their lyrics and their videos!! I can remember about three years ago when Snoop showed up showed up to the VMA's walking two women around the entire night with leashes, now why weren't Jesse and Al up Snoop's ass about that??!! The first amendment is a beautiful thing, but I think an an effort to be all PC we tend to forget that if we are offended by someone or something, we don't have to spend $11.00 to see the movie, buy the cd, watch the tv show, buy the book or magazine and we can turn the radio off. But at the same time it's great that we can voice our displeasure at something someone said or something. And honestly I'm a big Howard Stern fan!! The last time I listend to Imus was when I was a little kid and he did the morning show on WNBC and Howard Stern did the afternoon show, my mom listened faithfully to both shows. And the one thing I do remember about Imus was he used to do this bit were a teenager would call in and say the name of their high school and pretend that Moby Worm would eat their school.

Speaking of misogynistic assholes, I just read that Joe Francis (so sorry I have to mention his name in the same post as Kurt Vonnegut) the guy who pretty much started the whole "Girls Gone Wild" has been indicted on tax evasion charges. Supposedly he claimed false deductions on his 2002 and 2003 tax returns and he was also hiding money in accounts out of the country. He right now is in jail in Florida for contemptive court for filming underage girls. The guy is a total creep, he totally is going to get what is coming to him. A few months ago there was a story in the LA times where the reporter followed him around and witnessed him give booze to underage girls and film them doing sexual stuff, this reporter also witnessed him rape a 18 year old virgin. Then he re enacted his 2003 arrest on this reporter (who was female) and nearly broke her arm. I can remember reading his quote after the story came out he called the reporter "a fat ugly pig, who was just jealous cause I didn't want to have sex with her". I honestly hope Bubba his cell mate in jail goes wild on him!! I linked the article below so you all can read for yourselves what a slime this guy is.http://www.latimes.com/features/printedition/magazine/la-tm-gonewild32aug06,1,4548814.story?page=1&ctrack=1&cset=true

Kurt Vonnegut and last thoughts

I was really upset to learn that Kurt Vonnegut passed away today! He is my favorite author, "Breakfast of Champions" and "Slaughter House Five" are two of my all time favorite books!! I had the pleasure of hearing him speak and meeting him when I was fifteen years old. He was very witty and funny and I grew up on Long Island one town over from Geraldo Rivera (my dad went to high school with him, GR was two grades ahead of my dad, but his sister was in the same grade as my dad that's a whole other blog), Vonnegut's daughter Edie was married to Geraldo in the early 70's. And the one thing I remember Vonnegut saying at the start of his speech was "The only connection I have to this area is that a certian former son in law of mine grew up here....but I won't hold that against you people!" I always loved his style of writing and his sense of humor. LONG LIVE BILLY PILGRIM AND KILGORE TROUT!! RIP!!

One last thought for the day and this is going to make Kurt Vonnegut roll over in his grave! I think we should start a trashy book club, where we all have to read books by Pamela Anderson, Jordan, and some really good trashy celeb bios. We can talk about them here on the site....with all I'm going through right now I need some light easy reading!! Who is with me?????

Everything and then some!

Well first off to follow up on my post from yesterday.......
I took the first of my anti anxiety drugs this morning and I have to say that right now all I feel is very tired but really calm. I honestly hope that these drugs don't turn me into a zombie, I will take them for the next few days and see what happends.......

Onto the fun! Yesterday I picked myself up Janice Dickenson's book "Everything about Me is Fake and I'm Perfect"। In this book she talks about her life and gives dating and beauty advice, I got though the first couple of chapters last night and I have to say I LOVE THIS BOOK!! Janice is very candid, smart, crazy and really really funny!! I now want to read her bio "No Lifeguard on duty" after I'm done with this book. It's a great easy read worth a pick up!!

Last night I went to my friend's house and I watched the "American Idol" results show, my friends and I are seriously addicted this season and I think it is because of that cute little Indian Sanjaya!! The Indian Donnie Osmond had us at hello with the hair and the scary perfect demon teeth and that creepy look and smile he gives the camera after he sings a verse!! एवेर्य्तिमे संजय स&
